Primary Duties/Responsibilities of Position:

The medical assistant performs basic patient care tasks, supportive counseling and a variety of treatments. Direct patient care duties include physical and personal care, assisting Cadets with medications, and performing routine treatments, under the close supervision of a Professional Nurse. The medical assistant assists the nurse with sick calls and Cadet Drug testing, health exams at the beginning and end of each class, movement of Cadets to and from the location of the physicals. This includes coordination with Team Leaders to ensure the correct candidates are present at the appointed time. Employees may obtain and record pertinent health information, maintain patient data and reports, and provide information as needed; provides adequate documentation of clinical findings in the medical record of each Cadet. The medical assistant must become familiar with each new class that in-processes. The nurse for medical assistants to use will develop a record keeping system. Employees may also clean and maintain the patient care environment, perform routine clerical functions, and transport and move Cadets. This position will require some occasional nights. Note to

About The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy:

The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy is a quasi-military style residential program for at risk youth 16-18 years of age and is sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard. The mission of the Academy is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment and give them the skills to become productive citizens in their communities. Experience utilizing the basic skills of patient care procedures, sanitation, personal hygiene, common health and safety precautions. Required to complete Staff Acclimation Course, Foundation Course, First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary /Resuscitation (CPR)(Recertify every two years), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification, Gang Awareness, Conflict Resolution, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and Functional Training. “Per 5 CFR 731 , upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management.
