This will be a hybrid position between Surgery Authorization and Medical Assistant. The Surgery Authorization Representative will play a vital role in obtaining surgical authorizations for our patients. This position requires excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of insurance requirements related to surgical procedures. This position will also require 1 day in clinic day as a Medical Assistant at our Apex office. Throughout the week, this position would require daily check in on patient communication and medical assistant duties. The ideal candidate would be someone with medical assistant and insurance experience.

Responsibilities:

Obtain pre-authorization for orthopedic surgeries by working closely with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare professionals. Ensure accurate and complete documentation for authorization submissions, including medical records, diagnostic reports, and relevant clinical information. Communicate with surgeons and medical staff to gather necessary information for authorization requests. Collaborate with insurance companies to address any queries, appeals, or denials regarding surgical authorizations. Maintain knowledge of insurance policies, guidelines, and procedures related to surgical authorizations, ensuring compliance and adherence to regulations. Provide timely updates and communicate with patients regarding the status of their surgery authorizations. Assist with verifying insurance coverage and addressing patient questions or concerns related to surgical authorizations. Maintain accurate records and documentation of surgical authorization processes and outcomes.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; additional healthcare-related certifications or degrees are a plus. Proven experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting, preferably in surgery authorization coordination. In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance protocols. Strong knowledge of various insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, Worker’s Compensation and private insurance carriers. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and organized records. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, medical professionals, and insurance representatives. Proficient computer skills, including experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing software. Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to navigate authorization challenges and insurance requirements effectively. Position may include telecommuting.
