Position Overview:

The Medical Assistant I at UNC-Appalachian is an essential member of the healthcare team, providing both clinical and administrative support to medical office outpatients. The role involves supporting patient care activities under the clinical supervision of the provider and handling non-clinical responsibilities under the direction of the designated manager. Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $16.00/hour.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform both clinical and administrative duties in a fast-paced medical office setting.
Assist with patient examinations and procedures under the provider’s supervision.
Manage patient records using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Schedule patient appointments and handle patient inquiries.
Provide educational support to patients regarding treatments, medications, and procedures.
Ensure a professional, patient-centered environment in the clinic.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

Previous experience in healthcare or a clinic setting is preferred.

Required Registration/License/Certification:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
RMA, AAMA, or CCMA certification is required within one year from the date of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented healthcare environment.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology and EHR systems.

Physical Demands:

Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
Lifting and carrying medical equipment and supplies, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Bending, stooping, and reaching.
Manual dexterity for performing medical procedures and operating equipment.
Clear and effective communication with patients and team members.

Working Conditions:
