Healthcare for theHomeless is looking for compassionate and self-motivatedindividuals to join our direct care team as Certified MedicalAssistants (CMA). The CMA will support providers in theadministration of patient care in assigned clinical areas byassisting with patient examinations, procedures, diagnosticstudies, treatments, and dressing changes, and perform generaladministrative duties. The CMA will meet and engage with uninsuredor underinsured individuals, patients experiencing homelessness orhousing insecurity, and those referred to the HCH program bysources such as local hospitals, emergency rooms, healthcareproviders, and community agencies, as well as individuals metduring Street Outreach.

Responsibilities Review patient chartsbefore scheduled appointments to confirm that all requested labwork, diagnostic procedures have been completed and that reportshave been returned and are accessible to the provider. Reviewcharts for current medications, immunizations, treatments, height,weight and problem list. Prepare instrument trays for procedures,including sterile procedures. Obtain and record vital signs, reviewrisk assessment questions as appropriate and update thepreventative care flow sheet, allergies and medications. Directpatients to examination rooms and assist with preparation forexams, including helping them undress/dress and get on/offexamination tables. Assist providers with examinations andprocedures, including surgical procedures, gynecological exams,diagnostic studies, and treatments. Operate and monitor functioningof equipment, hand instruments to the provider. Monitor patientduring and following procedures; look for reactions and othervisible complications; react to emergency situations; notify theappropriate person in the event of a medical emergency. Conducthearing, vision and EKG tests as ordered by the provider. Under thedirection of the provider, administer vaccines per immunizationsschedules. Perform Point of Care Testing in accordance with the HCHprogram laboratory guidelines and handle specimens using UniversalPrecautions. Complete laboratory forms, process samples, and shipthem to reference labs. Address patient clinical complaints,ensuring immediate and effective responses and resolutions. Referto the Lead Clinical Coordinator or Practice Manager asappropriate. Conduct appointments for patients needing bloodpressure checks, throat cultures, personalized education, and othercare as directed by the provider. Obtain patient signatures onconsent forms for immunizations and invasive procedures. Serve as aliaison between the provider and other departments and agencies.

With provider approval, assist with medication refills asappropriate. Clean, wrap and sterilize instruments after proceduresas required and as appropriate to the specific procedure. Schedulesterile processing pick-up, as appropriate within the practice.

Participate in quality assurance activities and all trainings andseminars as assigned. Serve as a liaison between the provider,other departments and agencies. As required, maintain stock ofhealth information pamphlets; provide pamphlets to patients. Directpatients to proper sources of information. Keep nursing area andexam rooms stocked, clean and orderly.

Requirements:

High SchoolDiploma or GED, required. Graduate of an approved Medical Assistantprogram. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered MedicalAssistant (RMA) required within 6 months from hire. Basic LifeSupport certification, required. 2 3 years of experience in ahealth care setting, performing similar work activities includingbut not limited to, clerical, billing or insurance processing.

Basic computer keyboarding and data entry skills, required.

Experience and/or willingness to work with vulnerable populations.

Valid Drivers License or the ability to transport self to and fromoff-site locations.
