Medical Assistants support our providers and patients, both clinical and administratively, within established practice standards.
Clinical Duties:
Obtains and records patient medical histories, test results, and other information for medical records. Prepares patients for examination by performing quality point of care testing, vital signs, and reporting patient historical summary. Assisting providers with various in office medical procedures Perform basic laboratory tests and specimen collection. Administer and maintain vaccination records. Appropriate clinical pharmacology support surrounding medication refills, clarification requests, and prior authorizations Performing patient triage Obtaining and scheduling STAT pre-certifications for imaging and referral. Maintain inventory and stock in exam rooms and shared clinical areas.
Administrative Duties:
Manage patient inquiries via phone, text or messaging platform and relay information to health care providers. Coordination of care between patients, caregivers, specialists, and community agencies.
Skills:
Ability to deliver compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and caregivers. Understanding and compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPPA and OSHA. Ability to follow detailed organizational policies and procedures. Familiarity with electronic health record systems. Basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, and reference tools.
General Competencies:
Adheres to all safety principles in the performance of job functions. Uses all equipment in a safe manner. Identifies and reports all safety hazards to administration throughout the practice. Reports injuries and accidents and/or errors to patients and visitors to administration in a timely manner. Responds to fires and/or fire drills using the appropriate procedure. Follows the No Smoking policy. Manages waste and hazardous materials in the proper manner. Uses the MSDS sheets when needed. Performs appropriately in actual or simulated Internal and External Emergency Preparedness episodes. Uses proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. Must be able to safely lift, carry, push or pull 30 pounds.
Safety and Security:
Assumes responsibility for a clean and safe work environment. Wears one’s Identification Badge at all times while at work. Adheres to policies relating to computer security.
Attendance and Punctuality:
Maintains the responsibility for punctuality and attendance to ensure optimal operation of the department. Meets SNHIMA attendance policy as defined in the policy manual. When an unscheduled absence from work is necessary, the manager is notified according to SNHIMA policy. Submits requests for vacation, days off, etc. in accordance with SNHIMA policy.
