Job Summary:
Seeking an experienced Pathologists’ Assistant to support surgical pathology and gross examination procedures in a clinical lab environment. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience and be ASCP certified with a bachelor’s in a biological science or health-related discipline.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens under pathologist supervision Perform tissue selection, preparation, embedding, and cryostat sectioning for frozen sections Photograph specimens and maintain detailed gross descriptions Ensure accuracy in patient and specimen data Collect fresh tissue for biorepository, cytogenetics, flow cytometry , and research purposes Operate Faxitron and upload images to PACS Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of dissection lab and equipment Support pathology residents and pathologists during autopsies (e.g., photography, dissection, data collection) Prepare teaching materials for medical and interdepartmental use Use lab computer systems for result reporting and documentation Lift up to 30 lbs and stand for at least 5 hours per day Meet organizational competency standards and complete annual assessments Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
Required Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in anatomic pathology Extensive surgical and autopsy specimen handling knowledge Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-specimen volume
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or a biological discipline from a NAACLS-accredited institution Must include didactic and on-site clinical training in surgical and autopsy pathology Master’s degree preferred
Certifications:
ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant Documented competencies in managing simple to complex pathology specimens
