Job Summary:
The PathologyAssistant, under a physician’s supervision, will process anddocument specimens, assist with autopsies, and ensure pathologyservices meet clinical and safety standards. This role is key inspecimen handling and lab support for accurate diagnostics.
Rolesand Responsibilities:
Prepare gross tissue sections for analysis,including dissecting surgical specimens and conducting frozensections. Assist with human postmortem exams by collecting fluidsand tissues and documenting findings. Maintain and clean laboratorysupplies and equipment. Operate, calibrate, and troubleshootmedical instruments. Complete and manage pathology documentationand forms. Ensure adherence to infection prevention and lab safetyprotocols. Photograph surgical specimens according to qualitystandards.
Required Skills:
Expertise in grossing surgicalspecimens and performing autopsies. Strong understanding oflaboratory protocols and safety procedures. Ability to operatespecialized pathology equipment. Detail-oriented with strongdocumentation and organizational skills. Proficient in laboratoryinformation systems (preferred).
Education & LicensureRequirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Must hold a valid NewYork State license and current registration to practice as aPathologists’ Assistant issued by the New York State EducationDepartment (NYSED).
