Description:

Prepares gross tissue sections forpathology analysis, which include but are not limited to cutting,staining, as required, describing gross anatomic features,dissecting and processing surgical specimens for bio-banking,histologic processing, or other analyses (e.g., frozen section). 2.Performs human postmortem examinations, which include but are notlimited to selection of tissues and fluids for further examination,external examination, dissection, and gathering and recordinginformation for autopsy reports. 3. Maintains laboratory inventoryof supplies and equipment; cleans and disinfects equipment. 4.Calibrates, operates and troubleshoots medical equipment. 5.Completes, processes and files appropriate forms and documents, asneeded. 6. Adheres to and acts in compliance with all appropriateprocedures, protocols, techniques and standards, as they relate tothe gross room. 7. Photographs surgical specimens, as assigned, andmaintains quality standards and requirements for collection ofpathology specimen photographs. 8. Participates in accessioning andlabeling specimens, storing and disposing specimens, andmaintaining reagents and equipment. 9. Analyzes data and preparesreports on findings. 10. Maintains laboratory safety precautionsand adheres to infection prevention procedures. 11. Performs otherrelated duties, as assigned

Education:

Valid New York State licenseand current registration to practice as a Pathologists’ Assistantissued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
