POSITION:
Medical Assistant Kofinas Fertility Group is a leading NYC fertility practice dedicated to helping families grow through advanced reproductive technologies and compassionate care. We provide a comprehensive range of fertility services across five locations, including an in-house surgery center and labs, using state-of-the-art equipment and practices. Our team is committed to making each patient’s journey comfortable, efficient, and successful. As pioneers in fertility treatments, we have a history of “firsts” in Brooklyn, including the first In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) birth, successful Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT), and egg donation programs.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and highly organized Medical Assistant to provide essential clinical and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of our fertility practice. You will play a crucial role in supporting patients and physicians through various stages of fertility treatments. This role encompasses clinical and administrative duties, with responsibilities shifting based on the practice’s daily staffing needs. Flexibility and the ability to adjust to changing priorities are essential for success in this position. This role involves assisting healthcare providers with clinical tasks while managing front office responsibilities to maintain efficient patient flow, clear communication, and a positive patient experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent patient care skills, attention to detail, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, sensitive medical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintaining high-quality customer service and patient communications. Exhibiting professional telephone courtesy and answering calls promptly. Greeting patients and assisting them to examination rooms, ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere. Preparing patients for exams and assisting the physician or nurse practitioner during procedures. Accurately documenting patient information and ensuring comprehensive intake using Electronic Health Records (EHR). Performing diagnostic tests, including phlebotomy and vital sign recording, assisting with lab tasks, and administering medications or injections as directed by the healthcare provider. Collecting and processing lab specimens (blood, urine, etc.) for testing. Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked clinical environment, including sterilizing instruments and preparing exam rooms. Triaging phone calls, communicating with providers, and supporting patient care during procedures. Providing patient education on treatment plans, medications, and post-visit care. Updating patient charts, including medical histories, medication lists, and allergies. Booking and confirming appointments, ensuring accurate patient information is documented. Ensuring proper coding of patient visits for billing purposes. Verifying insurance information, processing patient check-ins and check-outs, and maintaining familiarity with in-network and out-of-network insurance coverage. Collecting and processing co-payments, insurance payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances. Possessing comprehensive knowledge of Kofinas Fertility Group services, locations, and departments to accurately direct patients to the appropriate party. Maintaining organized records and files, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines. This role combines essential clinical care with administrative efficiency, making it a critical part of the healthcare team’s ability to deliver excellent patient services.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
An Associate’s degree or higher is required, preferably in healthcare administration, or a related field.
Certification:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) required.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical practice.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in using EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals. Exceptional phone skills and the ability to multitask while delivering high-quality customer service are essential.
