Job Description
Medical Assistant Brookhaven Heart 325 East Main Street, Patchogue, NY 11772
Key Responsibilities:
- Chart preparation prior to patient visit (ensure referrals, authorization, labs and other reports are obtained).
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medications and allergy history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; maintain HIPAA compliance
- Perform ECGs, prepare consent forms for stress testing, prepare patients for stress test, attach stress ECG electrodes to ensure clear tracings
- Once competency verified, call prescription refills, perform ABI, IV access, perform finger stick glucose testing, point of care PT/INR testing, and other tasks as assigned.
- Obtain referrals and preauthorization
- Reconciliation of electronically transmitted labs
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Safe handling of equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Scans hospital consults and test reports
- Schedule hospital procedures
- Filing of consent forms and other clerical duties as assigned.
- Physician sample review and discard medications which reached expiration in medical waste red bags
- Willing to cross-train and learn medical receptionist responsibilites
- Assist with medical waste red bags and sharp containers by notifying managerial staff when full
- Maintain clean examination rooms and kitchen
- Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
Any other duties necessary to facilitate customer service
Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma)
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program, or current national certification preferred
Skills/Knowledge:
- Good oral and written communication with health team, patients and their families
- Professional demeanor
- Able to work in a team orient environment.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to handle fast paced environment and coordinate tasks
- Working knowledge of computer, copier, fax machine, answering telephones,
- Good hand-eye coordination to utilize assessment tools.
- Flexible to adjust work schedule
- Emotional stability required with attention to detail and ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
Experience:
1-2 years’ experience preferred. Willing to train exceptionally motivated individuals in a fast paced environment.

Schedule:
8 hour shift Monday to Friday Weekends as needed
