Job Description UPMC Latterman Family Health Center is hiring aMedical Assistant to join their team in McKeesport. This is aMonday through Friday daylight position with no evenings, weekends,and select holidays off. Hours are mainly from 8:30am to 5pm, butthere is potential to work 4 10-hour days. There is one late shiftevery four weeks on a rotational basis. /n This position offers aflexible schedule, free parking, and an opportunity to work withpatients of all ages. /n
Purpose:
Assist physicians with variousaspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, andorganizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition tocore Medical Assistant responsibilities, serves as lead person forteam regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.
Responsibilities:

- Guides workflow and/or assigns tasks toother clinical staff. /n
- Assist management staff with supervisoryactivities. Participates with creation and implementation ofdepartmental goals, processes and procedures. Mentors, orients andprovides ongoing training to current and new staff members. /n
- Serve as the department super user for Epic Care. /n
- Workdirectly with Manager to identify opportunities for improvementwith regards to Clinical/Non-Clinical functions, Infection ControlProcedures, and Patient Assessments. /n
- Guide routine meetingswith staff to communicate procedural changes to improve servicequality and patient safety. /n
- Must be responsible anddemonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks. /n
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HealthInsurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and otherstate and federal regulations. /n
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports,hospital notes, referral information, etc. Completeforms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verifyinsurance coverage and patient demographics. /n
- Prepare andmanaging charts to ensure information completed and filedappropriately.
Other front office responsibilities, as required.
Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment accordingto department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments andequipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keepingappropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restockingexam/procedure rooms. /n
- Check schedules and organizing patientflow.
Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients asneeded with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens,preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history;taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relayinstructions to patients/families. May provide more individualizedpatient/family education and supportive counseling as needed. /n
- Answering calls and providing pertinent information includingpatient education as directed. /n
- Under the direction andsupervision of a physician, administer injectable medication andvaccines when appropriate. /n
- Perform phlebotomy, EKG’s, andlevel one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy andprocedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patientinformation into the medical record. /n
- Comply with requirementsof appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Departmentof Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medicalrecords and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policiesand procedures. /n /n
- High school diploma or equivalent isrequired. /n
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant Programor equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successfulcompletion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, orNHA) OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required. /n
- Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practicecategory specific tasks. /n
- Must have basic computer skills andknowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic andtreatment room responsibilities.
Licensure, Certifications, andClearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both adidactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire./n
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) /n
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal /n
- Act 33with renewal /n
