Are you a dedicated Medical Assistant seeking a dynamic, rewarding opportunity in a supportive healthcare environment? UPMC’s Foot and Ankle of NWPA practice in Erie, PA, is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant to join our team! Enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday schedule with daylight hours—typically 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—and no weekends or holidays required. This role offers the unique chance to travel 3-4 days per month between multiple office locations in Erie and Meadville, providing variety and the chance to collaborate with diverse teams. Responsibilities:
Coordinate daily schedules and patient flow.
Accompany patients to exam or procedure rooms and assist with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.
Collect patient histories, vital signs, and perform screenings in accordance with provider guidelines.
Communicate care instructions clearly to patients and families to ensure understanding and continuity of care.
Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment in accordance with department protocols.
Clean exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to ensure proper infection control.
Follow scheduled maintenance programs for cleaning and maintain accurate records.
Manage supply inventory and restock exam and procedure rooms as needed.
Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e.
OSHA, CLIA, PA
Department of Health) and all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, level one labs, and clinic procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Assist physicians with clinical procedures to support patient care.
Document patient information accurately and thoroughly in the medical record.
Answer calls and provide pertinent information, including patient education, as directed.
Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and complete necessary forms and requisitions.
Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up as needed.
Verify insurance coverage and confirm patient demographics for accuracy.
Prepare and manage patient charts to ensure all information is complete, up-to-date, and properly filed.
Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
Administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate under the direction and supervision of a physician.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
Preferred:
Experience with podiatry, wound care, and casting.
Experience with in-office procedures and high patient volumes.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
