Job Description

Medical Staff Assistant – Full Time 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars 835 Hospital Rd, Indiana, PA 15701 In this role you will be: Utilizing independent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ensuring accurate interpretation and compliance with appropriate accreditation and regulatory agencies. Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the statuses and laws related to assigned medical staff processes. Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of department records, database, and systems. Communicating with providers and colleagues to ensure a high level of customer service is provided. Coordinating all staff appointments including preparing and sending out applications and reappointment applications. Verifying practitioners’ background including medical school graduation, internship, residency, fellowship programs, prior and current hospital appointments, academic appointments, reference checks, malpractice claims, liability history, professional liability insurance coverage, State DEA, medical licensure, specialty certification, query including but not limited to National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), Office of Inspector General (OIG), System for Aware Management (SAM), American Medical Association Physician profiles (AMA), American Osteopathic Information Association (AOA), and Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Submitting application documentation to department chair, credentials chair, and committee for review. Requesting updated documents and delineation of privileges. Verifying malpractice claims liability history, professional liability insurance coverage, State DEA, medical licensure, specialty certification/re-certification, prior/current hospital appointments, queries NPDB, OIG, and SAM. Processing all requests for temporary privileges, including Locum Tenens and Emergency Privileges, distributing information to the appropriate departments. Notifying staff members monthly that the documents in their credentials folder need updated. Working with the quality and patient safety department to maintain the physician

profile system for reappointments. Responding to outside hospitals’ inquiries in a timely fashion, maintaining tracking records and files. Preparing rosters and letters as requested. Answering the phone and responding to voicemails, as well as interacting regularly with and acting as a resource providing assistance as appropriate to physicians and hospital staff. Handling confidential information on a regular basis, maintaining discretion at all times. Generating reports as requested by hospital departments.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent required Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred

EXPERIENCE

1-3 years credentialing experience required 3 years’ experience in the medical field preferred

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
