SUMMARY CHC
is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant for our New Kensington location. The Medical Assistant work shift is from Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm and Wednesday 11:00 am to 7:30 pm to ensure patient care coverage, as well as clinic need. The Medical Assistant must have the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and respect the beliefs of all patients and team members. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. Checks schedules and organizes patient flow. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Verifies patient insurance, including prior authorizations, referrals and pre-certifications. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Relay instructions to patients and/or authorized family members. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keep appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies. Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Provides follow up with patients at designated intervals via patient’s preferred method (telephone, electronic, written) in accordance with provider instructions. Notifies patients of test results under the direction of provider in a timely manner Document patient information into the medical record Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Verify patient insurance, including prior authorizations, referrals and pre-certifications.
- Administers and accurately documents medications in accordance with policy and safe practice. Documents accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) according to established standards and workflows.
- Accurately performs clerical office functions and other duties as assigned.
- Will require floating/travel between CHC office locations New Kensington and Vandergrift.
- Provide coverage for PTO and vacations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School / GED Current CPR certification Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant OR 1 year in a direct patient care role, including vital signs Candidate experience must align with expected clinical duties (i.e., injections, phlebotomy) Employees who have graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire. Accepted Medical Assistant Certification Acts 33, 34 and 73 required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Reliable transportation and travel among Community Health Clinic sites required. Mileage reimbursement provided. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required.
