West Ashley Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health-19 Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Description Perform routine tests in clinical laboratories for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease using standard techniques and equipment Perform related duties in laboratory to include storing and labeling specimens and using manual and automatic equipment to prepare specimen and perform analytical tests Understand and comply with laboratory Quality and Control and Quality Assurance policies and procedure for instrumentation and testing Maintain records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens Prepare solutions, reagents and stains following the standard laboratory formulas and procedures Maintain detailed records of tests performed and report laboratory test results to appropriate personnel; recognize Quality Control shifts and trends to take appropriate action whenever necessary Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on test equipment, clean and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware and instruments, maintain laboratory supply chemical sand glassware; perform routine maintenance on equipment Follow up on patient lab specimens sent to reference laboratories for results Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture, heel stick or finger stick Carry out Point-of-Care Testing waived tests and urinalysis without microscope Utilize CPA and laboratory information systems and software Interact in a professional manner with doctors, mid-level providers, nurses, CMAs, and other personnel to provide technical guidance and address concerns Receive accurate information on all patients and update all demographic fields required Oversee and co-sign proficiency testing for all COLA-certified labs Review staff lab competencies for completion monthly Perform monthly quality assurance reporting and documentation Other duties as assigned
Additional Job Description Minimum Training and Education:
High School Degree or Equivalent Work Experience:
0-6months. State licensure and/or professional certification requirement/s dependent on position.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Physical Requirements:
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.
