Job Responsibilities
With our Agency’s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
The Medical Assistant Technician II, under direct supervision, provides services to assist doctors and other medical staff with treatment needs of patients; and performs varied front office clinical support tasks necessary for the operations of Tri-County Community Mental Health Center (TCCMHC).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Works closely with the physicians/medical providers rendering services to patients to include escorting to and from the waiting room, collecting vitals (e.g., pulse, weight, height, blood pressure), completing urine drug screenings as requested, and following up on requests of the physicians/medical providers related to continued treatment at Tri-County as well as any requests involving outside providers.
Ensures all patients/visitors are greeted upon entry. Responsive to needs of patients/visitors and maintains exceptional customer service skills in answering phones.
Assists with prior authorizations for medications and ensures authorizations are submitted. Assists patients with Patient Assistance Program (PAP) and Wellvista applications.
Ensure accuracy of patient insurance information, appropriate documentation for self-pay reduction, complete and accurate data entry in patient records (EMR), and demonstrates fiscal responsibility by informing patients of balances and requests for payment.
Ensures all services are provided in a culturally competent manner with respect for patients’ race, gender, beliefs, and sexual orientation. Ensures all patient contacts are documented in accordance with SCDMH Quality Assurance (QA) standards. Adheres to all Federal, State, and local laws/regulations and to

Corporate Compliance standards and operational regulations in performing all job duties.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

State Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and experience or training within the specific work area.
