JobSummaryPerforms assigned patient care and related administrativeduties under the direct supervision of the physician(s). Performs avariety of office/clerical duties as assigned by the officemanager. Specific patient care responsibilities will be assigned bythe supervising physician after competency isestablished.
Accountabilities Perform clinical, technical, administrative and clerical dutiesas directed by the physician and within the scope of training andcertification, including point of care testing. Receives criticallab values, reports value to physician and documents notificationin medical record.
- 25% Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Obtain andrecord patients’ chief complaints, current medications, vitalsigns, pain screening and allergies. Pends orders for physiciansignature.
- 20% Prepare exam and treatment rooms. Prepare and maintain suppliesand equipment for treatments, cleaning/sterilizing instruments asneeded.
- 10% Assist physician with examinations, tests, procedures, andoffice-based surgery. Apply splints, casts, dressings and removesutures with competency. Report and assist during emergencies.
- 10% Prepare and administer medications and immunizations as orderedby the physician, including p.o., vaginal and rectal suppositories,intradermal injection and intramuscular injection, afterdemonstrating competency and passing medication administrationtest.
- 10% Receive and return clinically-related telephone calls aftercommunicating with physician or registered nurse regarding medicalconcerns of the patient.
- 10% Teach patient and provide printed information, on physicianrequest, about diagnosis, self-care within the scope of assignedduties, health promotion, disease prevention and communityhealthcare resources. Patient education must be documented in themedical record.
- 5% Document data and care in the patient medical record. Maintainas confidential.
- 5% Complete medical insurance and other related forms forphysician review. Communicate as needed with the patient, referralsource and payor between visits. Complete patient registration,scheduling and billing tasks, pre-authorization and other generaloffice/clerical duties as assigned. Schedule tests and treatments,as ordered by the physician.
- 5%Supervisory/ManagementResponsibilitiesThis is a non-management job that will report to asupervisor, manager, director, or executive.
MinimumRequirementsCompletion of an accredited medical assistant programis preferred.
