Medical Assistant 2.4 2.4 out of 5 stars 629 Nuckolls Road, Bolivar, TN 38008 Job Summary Responsible for medical and administrative work, serves as part of a patient care team when needed. Assists, along with other clinical staff, in performing duties and responsibilities to carry out necessary functions to deliver quality primary care services. Serves as back-up to Patient Support Staff to provide support to the daily activities of the front desk which includes greeting patients, providing registration, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling and filing in accordance with company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Arranges referrals for clinic patients to area specialists and sub-specialists. Acquaints self to the insurance plan’s referral procedures. Uses guides and software to locate participating physicians and facilities in a given plan. Becomes the point person for the MCO provider representative.
  • Keeps logs of referred patients, radiology reports, mammograms and ultrasounds and ensures that the clinic receives all consult reports in a timely manner and that these are scanned into the proper patient charts.
  • Acts as a patient provider liaison person by calling to inform patients of pending clinical investigations, specialist appointment and informs patients of lab results as directed by provider.
  • Assists as back-up for Patient Support Staff as needed ensuring prompt and accurate registration.

Does accurate and complete computer and record entry of patient information. Verifies patients’ information. Ensures that patients are checked in timely. Requests appropriate co-pay and sliding fee payment from patient prior to them being seen. Checks out patient after visit is over by checking for accurate completion of patient information, ensuring patient has received a copy of the patient plan, verifying payment (s) due from patient have been paid and ensures that follow-up appointments are scheduled before the patient leaves. Accepts all charges sent over from EHR. Posts payments taken from the patient in NextGen, prints out computer receipt for patient, makes change when needed and keeps cash drawer and paperwork properly accounted. Closes each day’s batch of receipted patient payments.

  • Arranges translation for all patients with English as a second language and assists these patients with other services as necessary. Assists providers and/or patients with in-room translation during visits, appointments, phone calls, and other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Assists with other co-workers with organizing and other administrative and clerical tasks such as typing letters, completing mileage forms, making calls, scanning patient records into NextGen, completing mailings, etc.
  • Assists physicians (as backup to primary care nurses) in treatment and examination of patients when needed.

Takes accurate vital signs. Obtains presenting problem information and other routine information before provider sees patient. Takes patient histories and documents on charts. Assists with minor procedures as directed by provider. Enters all vital signs and BMI information with correct diagnosis code and counseling correctly into EHR. Submits all charges for completed procedures and enters results of procedures into EHR.

  • Actively participates in the Corporation’s improvement processes, disease management, quality assurance measures and activities for Meaningful Use and Patient Centered Medical Home including daily huddles, updating patient’s self-management goals and care plans. Works at studying, planning, implementing, and evaluating various new ways to improve systems of operation.
  • Interfaces with community health projects and agencies concerning the needs of our patients. Assists with off-site blood pressure checks, health fairs, schools and daycare medical activities as assigned by providers and approved by Chief Medical Officer.
  • Works cooperatively with all providers and other medical and center staff. Performs as a good team player by taking on appropriate share of the workload, and always treats others in a professional and respectful manner. Makes suggestions and gives input into the clinic operations and overall planning and goal setting for clinic and corporation.
  • Assists in additional center operations/activities such as public relations, community events, OSHA, fire and safety programs, and maintaining a positive health care facility for patients and staff.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Completion of a nursing program (i.e., Medical Assistant Program, LPN, or RN). Preferred Certification in Medical Assistant. Minimum 6 – 12 months of professional nursing experience in a clinical primary care setting preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of (EHR) is a benefit. Good communication and inter-personal skills including phone, writing and face-to-face. Good organizational skills. Flexible and energetic. Great customer service skills. Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, copier, fax machine and multi-extension telephone system. Ability to work under pressure. Work independently with a keen analytical sense.
