Position Overview:
We are seeking skilled and compassionate Medical Assistants to join our dermatology clinic team as we are growing! The Clinical Medical Assistant supports dermatology providers in patient care, assisting with procedures, patient education, and administrative tasks. This role ensures smooth clinic operations and adherence to medical standards. We are also open to anyone with a Certified Dermatology Tech certificate!
Essential Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Escort patients to exam rooms, gather chief complaints, review medical history, and medications. 2. Aid providers in biopsies and surgical procedures, such as excisions, cryo therapy, laser surgery, etc. 3. Educate patients on treatment plans and medication usage. 4. Clean and organize exam rooms, and stock exam rooms. Notify clinic manager of supplies with low stocking levels to avoid shortages. 5. Perform nursing tasks like suture removal and dressing changes, under the direction of provider supervision. 6. Complete required paperwork for pathology and lab requisitions. 7. Capture photos of biopsy sites and document in the EMR system utilizing assigned iPad. 8. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization protocols adhering to all FDG protocols, Tennessee state laws and OSHA guidelines to maintain infection control. 9. Perform blood draws and adhere to medical assisting scope of practice. 10. Assist with patient calls and scheduling during non-clinic times.
Key Professional Responsibilities:
1. Work scheduled hours Monday – Thursday between the hours of 8AM and 5:00PM, Fridays 8AM to 2PM. Hours may vary depending on practice needs. 2. Familiarity with FDG’s approved abbreviations, anatomical diagrams, and dermatologic terminology. 3. Obtain knowledge of FDG patient educational handouts on skin cancers, seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, and other common dermatologic diseases. 4. Accurate and detailed clinical note scribing for providers while ensuring grammar, spelling, and punctuation are correct. 5. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and demographic registration. 6. Attend practice meetings and collaborate effectively with team members. 7. Respect patient and coworker privacy and follow HIPAA protocols. 8. Participate in an annual individual performance appraisal, including maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. High school diploma or GED; completion of accredited medical assisting program. 2. National certification as a registered medical assistant (RMA) through AMT, or certified medical assistant (CMA) through AAMA or ACDT. We also accept persons with a CDT certification. 3. Current CPR certification and up-to-date health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B, etc). 4. Basic computer proficiency and ability to operate standard office equipment. 5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 6. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 7. Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
The Medical Assistant will primarily work in a dermatology clinic or surgical suite and fast paced environment, requiring physical stamina and adherence to safety protocols. The role involves exposure to routine dermatological diseases and procedures, with occasional exposure to biohazards and communicable diseases.
