Position Summary:

The Director of Billing is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the billing department for a multi-specialty medical group specializing in cardiopulmonary care. This position requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in medical billing and coding, payer regulations, and revenue cycle optimization. The Director will lead a team of billing professionals to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant claim submission, collections, and reimbursement. The ideal candidate is an experienced and proactive leader who thrives in a dynamic healthcare environment and is committed to operational excellence and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic direction and oversight of the billing department, including charge entry, claim submission, payment posting, AR follow-up, and patient collections. Lead, coach, and mentor a team of billing supervisors, specialists, and support staff to achieve departmental goals and ensure high performance. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and create action plans to improve revenue cycle outcomes such as DSO, denial rates, collection percentages, and clean claim rates. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and internal policies. Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and finance teams to streamline workflows and resolve billing-related issues. Oversee the development and implementation of billing policies, procedures, and training programs. Manage relationships with third-party payers, clearinghouses, and vendors to optimize claim processing and reimbursement. Analyze billing data and prepare regular reports for senior leadership. Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and staffing planning for the billing department. Lead system upgrades, EHR/PM implementations, and automation initiatives within the billing function.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business, or related field (Master’s degree preferred). Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in medical billing or revenue cycle management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of

CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS

coding, CMS and commercial payer guidelines, and E/M coding. Proven track record of team leadership, staff development, and performance management. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in medical billing systems (e.g., Athenahealth, Epic, NextGen) and Microsoft Office Suite. Certified Professional Biller (CPB), Certified Revenue Cycle Professional (CRCP), or similar credential preferred.
