Description:

Working with the hospital’s CMO, Utilization Review Committee, medical staff leadership, and the Clinical Effectiveness team, you will proactively identify opportunities to improve utilization of hospital resources and increase the quality of patient care.

Expectations:

Conform to and maintain the highest professional standards for quality patient care.

Make decisions about referred individual patient cases regarding pre-admission authorizations and medical necessity.

Assess the appropriateness of admissions, services/setting, and continued stay.

Conduct peer-to-peer reviews when needed.

Provide physician education on the benefits/need for Clinical Effectiveness.

Review resource management cases with attending physicians and encourage participation in CE activities related to appropriate discharge planning and improvement of quality documentation.

The Medical Director will also assist in: The development and promotion of resource management goals and objectives.

Serving as liaison to and between the medical staff and health information management departments.

Developing screening criteria for appropriate use of ancillary services, specialty units, and/or other targeted areas.

Requirements:

Demonstrate excellent communication and critical thinking skills in addition to decisive judgment.

Prior experience in one or more branches of medicine or surgery.

At least five years of medical staff organization/administrative experience in a large acute care hospital.
