Role Summary:
The Director, MedicalScience Liaison (MSL) is an experienced field medical expert whoplays a strategic role on the field medical team with depth andbreadth of business acumen, therapeutic knowledge and serves as aninformal leader on the team. The person in this role will be acustomer facing, field-based extension of our Medical Affairs team.
The MSL’s key objective is to create impact through advancingclinical practice within the assigned territory that leads toimproved patient outcomes. This individual will serve as a keyscientific resource, engaging with healthcare professionals (HCPs),key opinion leaders (KOLs), and other stakeholders to providescientific and clinical support for our portfolio.
PrimaryResponsibilities Include:
Builds awareness of the company withinthe medical community and develops strategic KOL/territoryengagement plans aligned with the medical strategy Supportsclinical research (investigator-initiated and company-sponsored),speaker development, and training as needed Demonstrates thoroughknowledge of the company, its investigational products, and currentmedical research Maximizes attendance at national and regionalconferences to gather insights, assess the competitive landscape,and strengthen relationships Leads identification and mapping ofkey KOLs within the therapeutic area, driving engagement strategiesProvides strategic leadership within the MSL team as a peer leader,motivator, and problem solver Manages top-tier KOL relationships,synthesizes high-level medical insights, and informs companymedical strategies Collaborates cross-functionally (clinical,regulatory, market access) to advance business and scientific goalsMentors junior MSLs and contributes to team strategy developmentActs as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders,including marketing, sales, and clinical teams Establishes anddevelops HCP relationships, engaging in activities such as datadiscussions, clinical trials, and addressing patient journeybarriers Responds to unsolicited information requests in a timely,accurate, and compliant manner Collaborates with internal teams(HEOR, access, marketing, sales) to maintain a customer-centric,compliant approach within assigned territory Ensures compliantdissemination of scientific and clinical information to healthcareproviders Manages administrative tasks (e.g., Veeva CRM, expensereports, compliance modules) efficiently, including customerprofiling and keeping CRM information up to date
Education andSkills Requirements:
Advanced scientific degree or equivalentrequired (e.g., MD, PhD, NP, PharmD, PA) 10 years of MSL experienceClinical experience within neuromuscular disorders (e.g., DMD, DM1)preferred; rare disease experience considered Strong knowledge ofinvestigational products and the neuromuscular space, includingemerging data In-depth understanding of clinical trial andinvestigator-sponsored study processes Proven ability to workeffectively within multidisciplinary teams Clear understanding ofMSL role and responsibilities Skilled in building and maintainingrelationships with KOLs through scientific expertise andfollow-through Able to communicate research results clearly todiverse audiences Strong communication skills (written, verbal,presentation) for building relationships with colleagues Expert inplanning, prioritizing, and executing tasks efficiently Capable ofworking independently and managing time in a home office Adaptablein ambiguous and dynamic environments Leverages past neuromuscularrelationships to support study enrollment and site communicationThe pay range displayed below is the range of base pay compensationwithin which the company expects to pay for this role at the timeof this posting. Individual compensation depends on a variety offactors, including, but not limited to, prior education andexperience, job-related knowledge and demonstrated skills.
