Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe Chief Medical Officer (CMO)reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with additional directreporting responsibilities to the Group Leadership and the CMO ofthe company. The CMO plays a key role in building and maintainingrelationships between hospital management and the medical staff, aswell as recruiting new physicians. In addition, the CMOcollaborates with Administration and leads in clinicaltransformation efforts to improve patient care quality and safetyand overall clinical effectiveness and efficiency. COMPANYDESCRIPTIONFrye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautifulfoothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital,81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary andspecialty care providers. Essential Functions Provides leadership and expertise for hospital quality andclinical effectiveness. Develops facility Chief Medical Officers. Provides leadership and expertise for graduate medicaleducation, including medical students and residents. Evaluates and optimizes the care management approach, processof disease management, patient satisfaction, patient safety anddevelops processes to assure appropriateness of care includinglength of stay and ancillary resource utilization. Assures hospitalist program delivers consistent, high qualitypatient care through solid partnerships with communityproviders. Leads development of patient-centered comprehensive care withinthe primary care network. Provides an environment of quality and cost improvement that isdata driven and develops systems to review utilization of resourcesand objectively measure outcomes of care across the continuumwithin the inpatient setting, transitional care services, and theoutpatient setting. Monitors physician and group patterns, presents data, analysisand interpretation to physicians and physician and hospitalcommittees for review. Assures that quality management programs are carried out in allclinical areas through the development and implementation ofeffective disease management programs, clinical protocols andguidelines, other decision tools, and review of the outcomes. Develops a performance database incorporating JCAHO and otherkey quality indicators to provide leadership necessary to meetregulatory requirements and guidelines. Partners and collaborates with the medical staff and managementteam, facilitating teamwork and shared goals. Helps represent medical staff viewpoints to administration andrelay administrative views to medical staff. Provides strategic leadership by focusing teams andorganization units on visions and distinctive strategies thatresult in excellent short and long-term performance in clinical,service and financial outcomes. Integrates evidence-based medicinepractices wherever possible, building this into new and existingpatient care delivery systems. Provides on-going counsel and advice to Executive Leadershipregarding the medical staff on physician matters. In conjunction with and in support of the medical staffleadership, helps facilitate, intervenes and moderate’s majorphysician-physician, physician-patient, and physician-staffconcerns with executive team members. Implements organizational structures which promote sharedaccountability, high achievement and compliance with applicablelaws and regulations; this to include electronic linkages and caredelivery tools. Ensures medical staff development plans and programs areimplemented and maintained as required by policy. Integrates clinical care quality and management with nursing,operations and finance; partners with members of the seniormanagement team, particularly the Chief Nursing Officer, in thisendeavor. Dedicates resources and time to developing physician leadershipin an incremental manner, with a focus on the existing medicalstaff officers and clinical chiefs.
