Full Job Description Summary:

The Medical Director is the highest-ranking staff member at The Solution Spay-Neuter Clinic, owned by a nonprofit organization, Humane Solution Spay-Neuter Program, with complete oversight of all veterinary and animal care functions in the clinic. The Solution Spay-Neuter Clinic is open Sundays and Mondays and veterinarians usually work from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Related Experience and Education Preferred :

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree required. Must have a current North Carolina Veterinary license. DEA license eligibility is mandatory. Extensive experience in spay/neuter surgeries required. Experience in a management role within veterinary medicine is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the overall care of the animals that are presented at The Solution Spay-Neuter Clinic (TSSNC). Implements protocols for the clinic and sees that the highest quality of care is being reached. Responsible for all surgical and/or treatment plans for animals under the care of the TSSNC whether conducted by medical supervisor, other veterinarians, or supervised technicians. Implement physical examinations, diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures on all animals (where possible) that will deliver the highest quality of care within a budget. Stay up-to-date with medical information and changes in veterinary medicine by attending continuing education in HQHVSN medicine. Update and review TSSNC protocols, such as vaccine protocols, medical and surgical treatments/procedures, as well as implement infectious disease control. Ensure staff, veterinarians, and volunteers are familiar with and adhere to written policies, code of conduct, and the standards of care at TSSNC. Oversee the hiring, training, reviewing, disciplining, and terminating staff and volunteers in accordance with the TSSNC Employee handbook or volunteer code of conduct in conjunction with the executive director or board president. Review expenses with the executive director of the clinic or board and help strategize to keep the budget balanced within the confines of maintaining high standards of a veterinary clinic. Meet regularly with managers who oversee. Give them the support and skills needed for them to succeed. Maintain NC Veterinary Medical Board, NCDHHS, and DEA certification for the clinic. Schedule per diem doctors. Maintain medical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up to date. Positively represent the TSSNC in the professional community and the general public. Participate in public promotion and fundraising for TSSNC. Collaborate with staff concerning inventory management and equipment care, and repair. Communicate regularly to the Executive director or board on issues and how to continue to improve the TSSNC.
