Supervisor I

Supervisor I Stipend:
The candidate selected will receive the APP base salary, with an additional monthly stipend amount for Supv I responsibilities.
General Responsibilities:
To provide oversight for administrative, clinical and human resource activities of designated advanced
practice registered nurses and physician assistants. To perform clinical practice and administrative duties.
To lead an advanced practice team of typically less than twelve (12) advanced practice registered nurses
and physician assistants. Role includes up to 10% reserved administrative time. May include some daily
operations support.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Approximately four (4) to ten (10) direct reports.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1.
Clinical expertise:
Practices in a provider role demonstrating experience and effectiveness as a
practicing clinician. Coordinates the delivery of high quality, patient centered and developmentally
appropriate patient care.

Management:
Demonstrates the ability to effectively function as an administrative liaison between the advanced practice provider team; the division/department administration and physician
leadership; and the Office of Advanced Practice Providers. Assists in maintaining quality and
regulatory standards. Ensures annual performance reviews are meaningful and relevant to the
members of the advanced practice provider team. Collaborates with department/division or
organization leadership on matters requiring disciplinary action.

Interprets policies and procedures to advanced practice providers and other members of the healthcare team. Maintains awareness of regulatory, statutory and credentialing aspects of
advanced practice providers scope of practice for the state of Alabama. Assists in ensuring that
clinical assignments are based on patient care needs and collaborates with manager or medical
director to update practice model as needed. Assists team members with compliance, credentialing
and regulatory issues including maintenance of advanced practice provider protocols and
collaborative agreements. Ensures advanced practice providers practice at the top of their license
by identifying and escalating barriers. Ensures quality assurance plan is executed no less frequently
than quarterly. Oversees orientation of new hires. Evaluates team performance through key
performance indicators. Responds to outcome measurement findings. Collaborates with
department/division and organizational leaders to develop patient experience strategies. Monitors
and evaluates patient safety events and develops strategies to improve patient safety.
7.

Participates in recruitment process in order to successfully recruit, select and retain competent and
valuable staff. Plans, executes/oversees orientation for new team members. Aligns staff
competencies with patient acuity. Interviews staff to meet clinical and operational needs. Promotes
retention by assessing staff satisfaction; developing strategies to address satisfaction; and
recognizing staff. Participates and contributes to the OPPE process. Promotes staff development to
facilitate staff education, ensure competency and promote professional development. Conducts
performance management through staff evaluations, goal-setting and continual performance
improvement.
8.
Planning and Decision Making:

Assists department/division leaders with budget planning and preparation as needed. Plans and coordinates staffing of advanced practice providers in a manner
to meet the need of the clinical service line. Participates in departmental and interdepartmental
committees to address system problems/issues, facilitate information exchange and to develop
innovative strategies that improve service, quality and productivity. Recognizes, initiates and
manages change at the unit level. Evaluates change outcomes.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in Nursing with an Acute Care NP certification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
