Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an Assistant Veterinary Medical Manager to join our amazing team! Role and Responsibilities Under the general direction and supervision of the Veterinary Medical Manager, the role of the Assistant Veterinary Medical Manager is to assist in the oversight and management of the medical care of all dogs in the program. Essential Functions and Duties Hire, train, schedule, approve timecards, conduct performance reviews, and supervise all Veterinary Technicians with the support of the Veterinary Medical Manager Review and maintain current and comprehensive medical records, including applicable certificates and documents on all dogs in the program, including projections of new arrivals and established dogs in training. Update veterinary data system to ensure compliance and consistency with organization standards Assist with creating, adapting, and updating Standard Operating Procedures for the Veterinary Department consistent with current and best medical practices, ensuring uniformity of medical care across all campuses, including guidelines provided by Veterinarian Fill in and provide hands on assistance to veterinary staff when needed, with ability to perform all veterinary technician responsibilities and functions Order, receive, maintain, and track inventory and logs of all medications, clinic supplies, diagnostic supplies and disseminate incoming products and supplies to appropriate personnel Participate in and/or host staff meetings, training, and development opportunities Participate in mock veterinary exams with Warriors during class, educating about appropriate veterinary care and what to expect when returning home with their Service Dog Always handle animals humanely and safely and hold Veterinary staff accountable for same Ability to work with dogs on unknown or outdated vaccination history Follow and adhere to all PPE policies Work closely with Veterinarian and Veterinary Medical Manager to manage complex medical cases Initiate emergency procedures when necessary Follow and promote K9s For Warriors culture, values, policies, and procedures Provide a positive example regarding corporate culture, work ethic, attitude, professional ethics, knowledge of policies/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and mutual respect Provide exceptional, courteous, and compassionate customer service to the public, volunteers, and other staff members Address any medical concerns our Warriors may have regarding their Service Dog, and conduct exams, draft care plans, and conduct follow ups, as needed. Carry a duty phone on a rotating basis for any after-hours needs requiring medical attention Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned by Veterinary Medical Manager Work collaboratively, and with a positive attitude, with all K9s department teams for the care, benefit, promotion, and ultimate outcome for dogs in our care Be available after hours and on weekends to provide direction for emergency care of all dogs in the program Qualifications and Education Requirements Certification through an accredited Veterinary Technician program or equivalent Veterinary work experience preferred 1 to 2 years of management or supervisory experience required Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task Ability to work independently with little to no supervision and within a group setting Valid driver’s license is required and meet standards to be added to company driving policy Must have basic computer literacy skills and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment Physical Demands Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, walking stairs, climbing, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds individually. Exposure to unpleasant odors or sounds, cleaning chemicals, loud noises, and inclement weather. Must be able to handle, position, and restrain live animals.
