Unit Details :

The Medical Patient Intervention Unit (MPIU) will be a new 14-bed acute care hospitalist unit scheduled to open later this year at the UAB Center for Psychiatric Medicine. This new unit will provide care for patients suffering from a psychiatric disorder with a concurrent medical condition that requires additional treatment. Nurses will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to care for: psychiatric patients with varying medical conditions, including uncontrolled diabetes, heart failure, and acute kidney injury; patients suffering from the effects of coexisting severe mental illnesses, including acute psychosis or encephalopathy and toxic ingestions; and patients with degenerative diseases like Huntington’s disease or a traumatic brain injury. Job Description:

To perform a variety of clerical tasks in support of nursing services of an assigned patient care unit. To effectively interact with patients, visitor’s and other members of the patient care team in order to support the delivery of quality patient care. To interpret and comply with departmental policies and procedures. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. Depending on the unit/department or if the position works directly with patients, Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required or required to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
