Work may include answering the telephone, faxing, and copying. Accurately schedules procedures for Endoscopy, Surgery, and Anesthesia. May work directly with physicians, physician’s offices and may have limited patient interaction. Responsible for entering procedures charges and the reconciliation of cases and charges. May be responsible for staffing the Surgical Family Waiting Room or staffing at any of the control desks with Perioperative Services. Functions as a resource to all of Perioperative staff around charging and HSM documentation. Routinely produces and distributes HSM operational reports and quality reports. Utilizes knowledge of appointment and procedural scheduling systems. Reviews charts for accuracy and completion prior to chart closure. Completes volume and charge reconciliation from previous day’s procedures. Assures that patient demographics and MRN, account number, patient type, and date of service are accurate and correct. Seeks appropriate guidance to reconcile account information to assure accuracy and efficiency. Upon verification of accurate patient information completes procedure charges from preference list, products that are recorded by OR staff, and provide charging mark ups as needed to assure accuracy in generating patient charges. Produces volume and quality reports on a daily and monthly basis and distribute according to protocol. Reconcile all volume information related to procedures across Perioperative Services. Assists staff, team leaders, clinicians, physicians, managers and director in data entry and formulating spreadsheets and other documents as requested. Assists in ordering of supplies and putting supplies away as needed. Accurately completes departmental duties as assigned which may include covering any area in Perioperative Services which may require clerical or customer service support. Performs general clerical office duties as required including but not limited to filing, faxing and copying documents. Seeks resources for direction when necessary. Provides confirmation number to physician office and to the patient when scheduling procedures. Adheres to and consistently supports professional standards and health care regulations that provide for and promote safety and high quality patient care in Perioperative Services. Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining knowledge base of current unit and hospital-based communication through a variety of modalities including but not limited to communication books, notices posted within the hospital and department, meeting minutes, Jackson Hospital intranet, and JH email system.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. College level training preferred. 2 years previous business office or patient access representative I or patient scheduling experience. Intermediate to advanced computer skills. Strong customer service skills. Microsoft Windows operations. Ability to utilize multiple software applications at one time. Ability to plan and manage work with frequent interruptions. Interpretation and understanding of medical terminology. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to utilize the PC and calculator. This position requires sitting for extended periods of time and talking on the telephone for extended periods. Demonstrate strong verbal and writing capabilities. Ability to type 50 to 60 words per minute. Ability to meet attendance requirements of the job.
