Summary:
This position impacts the patient’s overall experience at GCH. The receptionist is responsible for scheduling appointments and providing front desk coverage for patient satisfaction by preparing patient files, collecting insurance information, and discharging patients after their appointments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering their questions and giving directions to patients as authorized by the dentist or dental hygienist. Maintains professional and congenial attitude towards patients. Answers the telephone, receives and transmits messages. Assures the readiness of the reception area for each working day; opens the building at the designated time and have all front desk activities fully operational at the start of business hours. Assists patients in accurately completing appropriate forms and document all information according to agency protocols. Registers patients according to agency protocols. Schedules appointments, records and reports cancellations and no-shows, and confirms appointments. Maintain daily patient encounter activities. Responsible for office cash supply. Performs data entry and other patient information system functions. Maintains inventory of office supplies. Copies patient information when needed. Secures the building at the close of each working day according to agency protocols. Participates in all staff and educational meetings. Maintains a list of all Dental Department patients, monitors patient flow, and assists the Dental Director, dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in assuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed. Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and patient care of the Dental Department. Assists with various clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate and time permits. Participates in appropriate health promotion / disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required. Travels when necessary to meet operational needs. Responsible for personal compliance in full of all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures including but not limited to the participation of a Dental Assistant in the provision of clinical dental care, as well as those relating to, but not limited to personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality. May be required to perform duties and responsibilities not listed in this description on a temporary or long-term basis.

Must have a warm, outgoing personality. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with children and adults. Must have an excellent ability to relate to the public regardless of ethnic, religion and economic status. Ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols. Must have excellent organizational skills Must embody the mission and vision of the organization. Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment. Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations. Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) a plus. Must follow appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct. Must participate in accurate data entry and collection. Must assist in tracking outcome related statistics. Must demonstrate computer knowledge and ability. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word experience is a must. Must have an ability to use sound judgment. Possess a calm disposition and the ability to work easily with people.
Education and Experience:
Certified Dental Assistant(Preferred) Current CPR (BLS) required l-2 years experience working with diverse populations and dental health setting Experience as a dental health educator High school diploma or GED certificate
