Resident Care Director, or Facility Administrator Job Summary:
The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for assisting residents in an Adult Care Facility (ACF) with the self-administration of prescribed medications while ensuring compliance with NYS Department of Health (DOH) regulations. The Med Tech provides medication support and monitors residents for any side effects or adverse reactions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Medication Administration:
Assist residents with the self-administration of medications per facility policies and state regulations. Verify medication orders and ensure proper dosage, time, and method of administration. Maintain accurate and up-to-date Medication Administration Records (MARs).
Resident Care & Observation:
Monitor residents for medication side effects, allergic reactions, or changes in condition. Report any adverse reactions or medication refusals to a supervisor immediately. Ensure residents receive proper hydration and nutrition as needed.
Documentation & Compliance:
Accurately document medication administration, resident observations, and any incidents. Follow facility procedures and NYS DOH regulations regarding medication assistance. Participate in medication audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
Communication & Teamwork:
Work closely with nurses, caregivers, and other healthcare staff to ensure resident well-being. Communicate any concerns about residents’ health status to appropriate personnel. Provide support and reassurance to residents regarding their medication regimen.
Safety & Infection Control:
Follow proper infection control procedures when handling medications and assisting residents. Ensure medications are stored properly and securely. Maintain cleanliness and organization in medication storage areas.
Training & Professional Development:
Attend ongoing training and in-service education related to medication administration and resident care. Stay updated on NYS regulations and facility policies regarding medication assistance.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Certification:
Completion of a state-approved Medication Technician Training Program (if applicable).
Experience:
Previous experience in a healthcare, assisted living, or adult care setting preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow medication administration procedures. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents and staff. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work efficiently under supervision. Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment. May require evening, weekend, and holiday shifts based on facility needs.
