Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Water Safety, Behavior Intervention Associate assists in various functions including communication, planning, and assistance with students that are needing extra help at times. Setting goals for each camper to help excel in the classroom. The Behavior Intervention Associate ensures an enriching and safe environment, assisting with both on-site and off-site program needs.

Essential Functions:

Provides crisis intervention as needed; both physical and non-physical. Assists in the implementation of individual Behavior Intervention techniques when necessary to ensure to student success Implements crisis prevention, crisis de-escalation, crisis intervention procedures, and post-crisis strategies for EH/SED students. Develops rapport with EH/SED students. Supervises and monitors EH/SED students when buses are loading and unloading and off campus activities. Monitors and supervises EH/SED exclusion, non-exclusion, and isolation time-out area(s) under the direction or the Camp Manager Provide direction, rules, and supervision of program activities within the Summer Day Camp programs. Plan and implement daily activities that align with students’ needs and interests to promote healthy lifestyles. Support the retention of YMCA members by delivering high-quality programming and maintaining daily attendance requirements. Foster positive parent/staff relations to ensure satisfaction with programming and actively participate in parent committees for character development, arts, crafts, sports, and more. Maintain a safe and healthy environment by adhering to mandated staff-to-participant ratios. Report all accidents/incidents following YMCA policies and procedures, including child abuse suspicions. Stay current on emergency procedures and certifications. Maintain inventory and quality of supplies, equipment, and materials used in programming. All other duties as assigned by management. Education, Training and Experience AA/AS degree or equivalent in related field required; BS degree preferred. 1-3 years’ experience in formal child care curriculum and programming, school age experience. 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred. Child Care certification a plus. Microsoft Office proficiency required. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required Working Conditions May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms. May be required to sit, stand or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time. Must exhibit patience and understanding. Must be able to receive and follow detailed instructions. Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children’s well-being. May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment. Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person. Must be capable of working under pressure in an educational environment. May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures.
