The Mental Health Screener I provides extended mental health screening services for patients presenting to LRH in need of mental health and/or addictions services. This includes application of screening criteria to assist in evaluating potential patients for admission. Thorough application of knowledge and appropriate use of criteria, assists in determining necessity of admission. Provide appropriate referral(s). Performs patient care as possible when/where additional staffing is needed in patient care areas.

Standard Work Duties:

Mental Health Screener I Application of screening criteria to assist in evaluating potential patients for admission. Thorough application of knowledge and appropriate use of criteria, assist in determining necessity of admission. Provide appropriate referral(s). Must have a thorough knowledge of the U.S. social welfare system, as well as the ability to identify and access community resources is required. The MH Screener I promote the mission of the hospital in meeting the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. Has knowledge of all areas of the hospital and is competent to provide discharge planning, provide support, leadership and education to a multidisciplinary health care team. Coordinates activities required to comply with Baker Act and Marchman Act laws related to involuntary patients, in medical, and surgical. This includes communication with patient care team on when assistance in understanding the mental health laws are requested. Identifies and supplies provisional behavioral health and/or substance abuse diagnostic recommendation. Applies criteria appropriately while utilizing knowledge and training to provide sound recommendation as to necessity of admission, likewise documents and makes appropriate referrals with absence of supported negative feedback. Obtains authorizations as contracted and/or required, verifies demographic and payor information, and assists patient in evaluating his/her care resources and utilization whenever possible. Functions as a liaison with the EDs, HFCBW, medical floors, throughput and other community resources/facilities with no more than two substantiated complaints. Assists on unit(s) as needed when available and in times of crisis (Codes).
