C and Behavioral Health Emergency DepartmentAssistant Director of Nursing:
Under general supervision of theAssociate Director of Nursing, assists with the planning,organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of nursingservice and education programs of the hospital, diagnostic andtreatment center, or a major unit within the Department of Nursing.
Performs related work.
Typical Tasks:
1. Assists in developingpolicies, objectives and standards of nursing service andeducation. 2. Assists in the preparation of personnel, supply andequipment budgets. 3. Assists in the development of administrativeprocedures and programs of patient care. 4. May have responsibilityfor planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluatingthe nursing service in a major clinical division, or a home healthagency in a hospital, participating in selection, placement andfollow-up of patients transferred to homes. 5. Assists with theplanning, organization and conduct of a nursing education program.6. May assume responsibility for planning, directing, coordinatingand evaluating nursing service on the evening and night tours. 7.Directs activities of Supervisor of Nurses. 8. Prepares and makesperiodic and daily reports on administrative matters relating tostaff and patient management. 9. Participates in the direction andimplementation of a quality assurance program for nursing. 10.Attends and chairs regular staff meetings with nursing personnel.11. Assesses nursing services by making rounds, conducting chartreview and evaluating patient care. Minimum Qualifications 1.Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professionalnurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below. 2. Master’s Degreein Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty orequivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience,of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teachingcapacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years ofsatisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall havebeen in a supervisory or teaching capacity. 3. A satisfactoryequivalent of education and experience. However, all candidatesmust be licensed and currently registered to practice as aProfessional Nurse in New York State.
