PsychiatricTechnicians are responsible for managing the daily milieu of thefacility, ensuring the safety of clients, and maintaining atherapeutic environment. Psychiatric Technicians are expected tofamiliarize themselves with the histories and needs of the clientsand be capable of identifying cues and behaviors that may indicatea change in clients’ status or condition. Position is responsiblefor documenting in the client records and communicating proactivelywith clinical team members and supervisor(s). Relationships and Contacts Within the organization: Maintains frequent and close workingrelationships with program staff and facility team membersthroughout the organization.

Outside the organization:

Initiates and maintains strongprofessional relationships with clients and families, clinicalproviders, referral partners and vendors, as needed. Essential Responsibilities Collaborates with clinical team to determine/select appropriateinterventions based on the needs of individual clients. Actively participates and engages clients in the milieu and outsideactivities throughout the workday, often in a variety of groupsettings. Encourages clients to perform ADLs, which include tasks likecleaning their room, maintaining hygiene, and doing laundry, toinclude conducting client drug screening, pregnancy tests, andbreathalyzer tests as needed. Prompts clients to attend all meals in a timely manner and providessupervision and structure at mealtimes as appropriate. Models effective table manners and small talk during mealtimes,focusing on engaging all clients. Provides, structures, and maintains a therapeutic environment incollaboration with other staff. Therapeutically interacts with the client in one-to-one situations,community, and group meetings, maintaining appropriate boundariesand modeling appropriate social behavior. Collaborates with clinical team to facilitate client educationgroups. Reacts therapeutically in crisis situations. Recognizes client’s level of behavioral functioning and modifiesapproaches accordingly to include recognizing mood changes anddeveloping DBT coping skills. Maintains therapeutic relationship with clients using praise andother reinforcers to encourage appropriate behaviors and attitudes,setting limits in a kind and firm manner. Documents, in accordance with policies and procedures, servicesprovided, incident reports, shift reports, and group/milieu notesin a timely and accurate manner. Complies with the facility safety procedures as outlined in thepolicy and procedure manual to include fire drills, evacuationprocedures, and internal/external disaster plan. Demonstrates effective verbal intervention skills in managingescalating clients and involving other staff as needed adhering toDBT model and interventions. Performs a vehicle safety and fuel check prior to use of anycompany vehicle, reporting any concerns to supervisor ormanager. Supports clients in effectively managing leisure time, includingjoining in activities with clients. Greets all guests warmly and friendly. Follows through with clinical precautions effectively, includingvisual clinical observations. Answers phone and fields calls in an upbeat and positive manner,focusing on customer service. Transports clients to and from appointments, supporting clientwhile regulating in community. Identifies and recognizes triggers for escalation with each client,and utilize de-escalation techniques, focusing on prevention ofcrisis. Gathers clients for outings and groups to promote programengagement. Supports medication compliance and management of clientself-administration. Prepares for client admissions to all levels of care including butnot limited to ensuring room is prepared, completes intakedocumentation, ensures all medications are documented andstored. Conducts client belonging search, inventory and notifying therapistof any contraband. Supports discharge processes, as needed. Education and Experience Position requires High School or equivalent, bachelor’s degreestrongly preferred. A minimum of 1 year experience in a behavioralhealthcare setting is preferred. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee will berequired to communicate with peers, clients and/or vendors. Job performance will require the ability to move throughout thebuilding as well as participate in activities outdoors and offfacility grounds. Performs duties that require the employee to stand and walk forextended periods of time. May sit or remain stationary for periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may berequired to talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb orbalance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste, or smell. Ability to move twenty-five pounds. Additional Requirements Position requires incumbent to have a valid driver’s license,vehicle insurance and acceptable driving record. Clearance of criminal background, TB test, and any other mandatorystate/federal requirements.
