Lead Mental Health Technician (Evening Shift) Adams Clinical 521 Mount Auburn Street, Watertown, MA 02472 Adams Clinical, a research site network specializing in late-phase psychiatric and neurological drug testing, is seeking applicants for the Lead Mental Health Technician (Evening Shift) role within our overnight inpatient research facility at our Watertown location (02472).
Position Summary:
The Lead Mental Health Tech (Evening Shift) plays an essential role in ensuring participant safety and maintaining a therapeutic environment within our overnight inpatient research facility. This position supports ongoing clinical trials by providing direct care, supervision, and engagement with research participants under the guidance of the In-patient Unit Manager, Clinical Research Coordinators, and the Principal Investigator. The evening shift is 4:00 PM
- 12:00 AM.
The LMHT also assists with basic clinical and laboratory tasks, contributing to protocol adherence and overall research integrity.
Responsibilities:
- Interact therapeutically with participants and respond to behavioral changes, using verbal de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Review and discuss handoff from 8:00 AM staff (4:00 PM) and prepare a detailed shift report for the 12:00 AM staff.
- Confirm all unit transitions (including scheduled assessments and research visits).
- Perform participant wellness checks and ensure documentation is completed every 15 minutes.
- Supervise evening smoke breaks, and assist/supervise with meal preparation and service, particularly on weekends.
- Ensure and assist participants in completing their evening hygiene routines and that rooms are orderly.
- Support or co-facilitate afternoon/evening activities.
- Monitor, assist, and document medication administration.
- Oversee laundry sign-ups/use (when applicable).
- Follow the assigned daily checklist and participant activity schedule (including protocol schedule).
- Maintain continuous observation and supervision of participants for safety and to promote a therapeutic environment.
- Assists in the admission and discharge process, including participant orientation and documentation.
- Ensure all documentation is completed and logged and note any incidents during shift.
- Collaborates with research and clinical staff to ensure compliance with study protocols and care standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support care and research operations.
- Manage and document any behavioral issues or emotional escalations.
- Take and record vital signs; collect urine specimens and document per protocol, if required.
- Perform phlebotomy when necessary, including venipuncture for blood draws, labeling specimens, and preparing labs for courier pickup or shipment per protocol and SOP, if needed.
- Ensure lab samples are correctly handled, processed, and documented to maintain compliance with research guidelines, if applicable.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, post-secondary education (e.g., Bachelor’s degree) preferred.
- Prior experience in inpatient psychiatric units or working with patients with psychiatric disorder or some prior level of medical training required (LVN, paramedic, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be willing to become phlebotomy trained (training provided by site).
