Job Summary The Nuclear Medicine Technologist II performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures using radiopharmaceuticals and specialized imaging equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring patient safety, preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, maintaining equipment, and adhering to all regulatory and radiation safety standards. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist II collaborates with Physicians, Radiologists, and healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic imaging and high-quality patient care. This position also assists with department operations, quality control, and regulatory compliance efforts to ensure efficient and safe nuclear medicine services.

  • Basic Life Support required Essential Functions Performs complex nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including planar, SPECT, and therapeutic nuclear medicine studies, ensuring compliance with physician orders and department protocols.

Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, following strict safety guidelines and ensuring proper patient screening before administration. Conducts quality control (QC) checks on nuclear medicine equipment, including gamma cameras, counting instruments, and survey meters, identifying and reporting equipment failures. Processes and reviews imaging studies in PACS and RIS systems, ensuring accurate documentation and completion of exam data. Verifies compliance with radiation safety protocols, ensuring adherence to state, NRC, and facility regulatory requirements for radioactive material handling, storage, and disposal. Responds to isotope spills, following established radiation spill protocols, notifying the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and Imaging Director, and completing required reporting. Maintains emergency equipment, restocks supplies, and ensures a clean, organized work environment to support daily operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced proficiency in nuclear medicine imaging techniques, radiopharmaceutical handling, and radiation safety procedures. Strong knowledge of NRC, state, and federal regulations for nuclear medicine operations and compliance. Ability to troubleshoot nuclear medicine equipment, ensuring proper operation and timely maintenance. Effective communication and patient care skills, ensuring comfort and understanding during procedures. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly in quality control and equipment troubleshooting. Attention to detail and ability to accurately document and report imaging studies, radiopharmaceutical administration, and safety compliance data. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with radiologists, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
