/n A Nuclear Medicine Technologistperforms diagnostic imaging procedures using radioactive materialsto assess organ function and diagnose medical conditions, such ascancer, heart disease, and other abnormalities. They play a keyrole in assisting physicians with accurate diagnosis and treatmentplanning by providing detailed images of the body’s internalstructures. Nuclear Medicine Technologists operate specializedimaging equipment and ensure patient safety during theadministration of radioactive materials. /n/n

KeyResponsibilities:

/n /n

  • Prepare, administer, and monitor the safeuse of radioactive materials (radiopharmaceuticals) for diagnosticimaging and therapeutic procedures. /n
  • Operate specializedimaging equipment, such as gamma cameras and PET/CT scanners, tocapture diagnostic images of organs and tissues. /n
  • Preparepatients for nuclear medicine procedures by explaining the process,positioning, and ensuring their comfort. /n
  • Administerintravenous injections, oral radiopharmaceuticals, or inhalation ofradioactive substances as required. /n
  • Analyze and interpretnuclear medicine images to identify normal and abnormal findingsfor physician review. /n
  • Collaborate with nuclear medicinephysicians and other healthcare professionals to develop andimplement diagnostic imaging protocols and treatment plans. /n
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient procedures, imagingdata, and radiopharmaceutical usage. /n
  • Ensure the safe handling,storage, and disposal of radioactive materials according toregulatory guidelines. /n
  • Monitor patient vital signs, such asheart rate and blood pressure, during procedures, ensuring patientsafety throughout. /n
  • Stay current on advancements in nuclearmedicine technology, imaging techniques, and safety protocolsthrough continuing education.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear MedicineTechnology. /n

  • Certification:

    /n /n

  • Certified Nuclear MedicineTechnologist (CNMT) certification from the Nuclear MedicineTechnology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry ofRadiologic Technologists (ARRT-N). /n
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)certification. /n /n /n
