Under the supervision ofthe Nuclear Medicine Manager and/or Chief Technologist, performs awide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing compleximaging equipment to produce quality images as requested forsubsequent interpretation by the nuclear physician. All duties areperformed according to departmental and organizational policies andprocedures. Additionally, the PET CT Tech is expected to work independently inproblem solving and be the super user of the PET CT system.

Performs high qualityPET CT imaging procedures utilizing appropriate age specificstandards to obtain the desired diagnostic patient information forthe referring physician. 1.1 Performs high quality General and PETimaging procedures utilizing appropriate age specific standards toobtain the desired diagnostic patient information for the referringphysician. Uses technical skill and knowledge of cross sectionanatomy to perform CT protocols appropriate and efficiently. 2.Performs various radiopharmacy duties including receipt,preparation, administration and storage of radionuclides andradiopharmaceuticals to ensure safety and integrity of the agentsused. Properly recording all duties according to departmentalpolicy. 2.1 Obtains radionuclides by eluting generator systems orfrom bulk shipments maintaining sterile technique and shielding.

All radioactive materials received are checked for leakage andactivity according to departmental procedure as observed bysupervisor or radiation safety officer. 3. Performs quality controlprocedures to ensure optimal performance of gamma cameras,computers and other related auxiliary equipment (dose calibrators,well counters, etc.) 3.1 Performs daily, weekly, and monthlyquality control on all instrumentation including uniformity checks,linearity, center of rotation and other indicated tests accordingto departmental procedure to ensure all equipment is in properworking order as observed by supervisor or peers. 4. Practices safehandling of radioactive materials according to departmental andfederal regulations to ensure minimal radiation exposure to selfand others. 4.1 Follows ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable)guidelines for radiation exposure including use of syringe shieldsand lead carrying cases as observed by supervisor and peers and asevidenced by monthly film badge reports. 5. Performs job-relatedtasks in a timely manner as needed to ensure the goals of thedepartment are met. 5.1 Schedules patients for procedures usingImagecast computer system and tracks assigned patients’ arrival andcompletion status as observed by supervisor. 6. Demonstratescommitment to coworkers, department and hospital through generalstandards of professional conduct to facilitate the efficient andsmooth operation of the department. 6.1 Recognizes and performsduties which need to be done such as offering assistance to 7. Toenhance the patient experience in Diagnostic radiology all staffwill be responsible to achieve patient satisfaction scores set bythe department on the Test & Treatment section of our Press GaneySurvey. 7.1 1. Staff will present themselves in a friendly andcourteous manner; Staff will identify themselves and their rolewhile encouraging a Patient and Family Center experience. 1.2 Staffwill fully explain procedure and ask if the patient has anyadditional questions about the procedure. 1.3 Staff will addressany comfort issues a patient may have prior to starting procedure.1.4 Staff will thank patient once procedure is completed and askthe patient if they have any additional questions. 1.5 Staff mustmeet the above goals and fiscal year threshold value, which waslast fiscal year actual for a 2 rating on review. 2. Staff mustmeet the above goals and exceed fiscal year threshold value by .2for a 3 rating on review. 3. Staff must meet the above goals andexceed fiscal year threshold value by .4 for a 4 rating on review.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduation from an A.M.A. approved programin Nuclear Medicine and Radiological Technology Program. AS degreerequired, BS degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Demonstrate technicalskills to meet entry level standards of routine CT imaging and One(1) to two (2) years of experience in Nuclear Medicine. LICENSURENMTCB or ARRT (N) certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology orARRT(R) certified by the American Registry of RadiologicalTechnologist and Connecticut State License. CPR Required

SPECIALSKILLS

Must have advanced knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals,nuclear medicine equipment and nuclear medicine imaging proceduresand advanced computer acquisition and processing techniques. Alsomust be proficient in routine CT imaging and have knowledge ofcross section anatomy. Must have knowledge of computer/Pacsapplications, and good organizational and excellentcommunication/customer service skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Must be ableto lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
