Job SummaryThe job responsibilities for CertifiedRegistered Nurse Anesthetists at Lexington Medical Center must beperformed under medical supervision. CRNAs provide anesthesiaservices for all patients from birth through geriatrics. Anesthesiaservices are provided for all types of patients incorporatingpre-anesthesia, intra-op anesthesia, post anesthesia and emergencyairway intervention.

Essential FunctionsQualified nurse anesthetists must be ableto provide anesthesia care under the direction of a supervisinganesthesiologist who has been granted privileges at LexingtonMedical Center.

A CRNA may administer a regional anesthetic onlywith permission from the attending anesthesiologist.

The nurseanesthetist may exercise independent judgment within the area ofhis/her professional competence and may participation directly inthe medical management of patients under the supervision of ananesthesiologist or a specified physician. The nurse anesthetistmay perform the following medically delegated tasks:

Selects and applies appropriate monitoring forcontinuous evaluation of patient status.

Selects and administersappropriate drugs, fluids, and supplies for the safe conduction ofanesthesia.

Employee understands, agrees, andrecognizes that the department functions in a 24-hour, 7-day a weekcapacity and that there is an off-shift and call provision andstaff obligation to meet department needs.

Ensure Hazardous Waste orHazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals are discarded, stored, and managedwith other compatible waste streams in containers that are properlylabeled and closed prior to being shipped offsite for properdisposal. Initial RCRA training is received within 6 months of thehire date and continuing with annual RCRA training.
