Advanced Practice Provider – UAB Acute Care Surgery Services($20k Annual PM Stipend)The following APPs may be considered forthis role: Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or PhysicianAssistantWork schedule: Full-time, benefited12 hr – PM shift:5pm-5am14-16 shifts per monthWeekends and holidays required-

PMPremium Pay:

Base salary plus $20,000.00 PM stipend (paid outmonthly – $1,666.67). After completing department orientation, themonthly PM stipend is added.-Full-time benefited APPs receive anannual $2,000.00 CME allowance. This can be used forrecertification, fees, CMEs, etc. that occur after a new employee’sstart date.

The Advanced Practice Provider with the UAB Acute CareSurgery Team will work with the entire multidisciplinary team toprovide critical care for the patients in the Surgical IntensiveCare Unit and ICU patients boarding in the PACU. This will includedaily assessments, documentation, developing plan of care,ventilator and coordination of critically ill patients.

PositionSummary:

To provide medical care and treatment within establishedscope of practice to acute care services and emergency medicinepatients as assigned by and under the direction of thecollaborating physician (Section 610-X-5 of the Alabama Board ofNursing Administrative Code) or under supervision of a BoardCertified Physician (Section 540-X-7 of the Alabama Board ofMedical Examiners Administrative Code). The collaborating physicianshall be available for direct communication for consultation andreferral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physicianwho is pre-approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in thesame manner as the collaborating physician of record. To coordinateplan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate tomeet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinatehealth care education for patient, family and other health careproviders as needed. To perform comprehensive physical examinationsand assessments. To interpret, analyze and evaluate patientsmedical record and social data. To perform and/or assist thephysician with procedures per collaborative agreement. Tocoordinate and participate in performance improvementactivities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Based on thoroughphysical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulates andimplementscomprehensive patient care plans focused on prevention,diagnosis and comprehensive treatmentof disease. Plans includepatient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab anddiagnostic testing, and therapies.2. Ensures complete documentationof patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.3.Orders and interprets laboratory and other diagnostic tests for thepatient.4. Maintains records and reports as required by regulatoryagencies and The Joint Commission (TJC). May coordinate and/orparticipate in performance and quality improvement activities.5.May assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as apatient advocate and a liaisonbetween the patient and other healthcare providers.6. Provides assistance in orientation and/ortraining of new clinical personnel as needed. Provideseducationalinformation by conducting workshops, in-service training anddistributing appropriatematerials for patients and staff.7. Servesas the expert clinical resource to the clinical staff and patientsin the area of specialty.8. Provides a safe environment forpatients and others.9. Demonstrates a responsible attitude towardcontinued professional growth.10. Performs other duties asassigned.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degreein Nursing with an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitionercertification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistantprogram required. Work experience may NOT substitute for educationrequirement.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:

Currentlycertified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with CertifiedRegistered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Boardof Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the AlabamaBoard of Medical Examiners with certification as a PhysicianAssistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification ofPhysician Assistants required. Certified in Basic Life Support(BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required orshould be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on theunit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificationand/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the AmericanHeart Association (AHA) may be required.
