Certification Full Job Description Mission The mission of BAO is to enhance the quality of life for people living with HIV / AIDS, at-risk, affected individuals, and the LGBTQ community through outreach, age-appropriate prevention education, and supportive services. The mission of Magic City Wellness Center at Hanover is to provide residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient care for individuals with eating disorders and co- occurring mental health conditions through compassionate, comprehensive mental health services within an LGBTQ affirming environment. Job Purpose The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner diagnoses and treats clients and manages their mental health conditions, prescribes, monitors and adjusts psychotropic medications, orders diagnostic tests, provides health education and counseling, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals. Serves as a primary mental health care provider with the ability to independently manage patient care. Duties and Responsibilities Provide a comprehensive mental health assessments including taking medical histories, performing physical examinations and reviews client records. Diagnose and treat a range of mental health disorders, including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for clients experience acute mental health crises. Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, working within their scope of practice. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address a client’s unique needs. Provide psychotherapy, including individual, group and family therapy. Educate clients and families about eating disorders and mental health Provide detailed information to clients regarding treatments, possible side effects, aftercare instructions, aftercare maintenance, or preventative care methods. Provide client education on health conditions, disease prevention, and lifestyle modifications. Offer counseling and support to clients regarding their health concerns. Collaborate with other healthcare providers, including physicians and psychiatrists, to ensure optimal patient care. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including clinical notes, diagnoses, treatment plans, and medication orders. Direct crisis intervention efforts and intervene as required. Manage difficult or conflict situations constructively with a high degree of sensitivity, tact and diplomacy, and seeks appropriate assistance when needed. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, family members, guests, the general public, associates, supervisors, providers and staff. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards clients always. When client needs are not met, acknowledges and works to resolve complaints. Recognizing that patient safety is a top priority. Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications Master’s Degree in advanced practice nursing from an accredited program, required. Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), required. Must have an unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Alabama, required. Current certification as a certified registered nurse practitioner (APRN) granted by a national certifying agency recognized by the Alabama Board of Nursing, required Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Alabama. Eating Disorder experience , preferred. Maintains up-to-date, applicable State of Alabama and/or National licenses or certifications. Maintains credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and licensing boards. Knowledge and experience working with the LGBTQ community. Physical/Mental Requirements Mentally challenging position due to continuous exposure to extreme mental health issues. Must be able to move throughout the clinic property during shifts. Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Other Requirements Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends Obtain Crisis Prevention certification (CPI) within 90 days of hire. Obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire. Must possess valid government ID. Must have reliable transportation. Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate positive interpersonal skills.
