Position Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Inpatient Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our dynamic team at Cobb Medical Center . In this role, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to patients in an inpatient setting. As a key member of the multidisciplinary care team, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental health disorders, ensuring a high standard of care and contributing to positive patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care :
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, and manage psychiatric care for adult and geriatric patients admitted to the inpatient unit.
Diagnosis and Treatment :
Diagnose mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and other psychiatric illnesses. Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
Medication Management :
Monitor and adjust medications as needed, providing ongoing education to patients and families about medication management.
Collaborative Care :
Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and treatment planning.
Crisis Intervention :
Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments for patients in acute psychiatric distress. Handle psychiatric emergencies in a calm, professional manner.
Documentation :
Maintain accurate and timely medical records, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Patient and Family Education :
Provide education to patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
Quality Improvement :
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in inpatient psychiatric care.
Qualifications Education :
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. Board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
Licensing & Certification :
Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia. Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Georgia. Current certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
Experience :
Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric or mental health settings, preferably in inpatient care. Experience working with diverse patient populations and complex mental health conditions.
Skills & Competencies :
Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting or acute care psychiatric hospital. Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and documentation standards.
