Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the supervising physician, this position requires the skills of a provider who is highly experienced in primary health care and who is completely comfortable working independently in a remote location in a busy clinic setting. This position desires at least 1 year of experience in a primary care setting. Under direction of the supervising physician, performs work of considerable difficulty in the provision of primary health care, which consists of a broad range of health care services to patients which may be initiated and managed by a nurse practitioner/physician assistant and, if applicable, with appropriate advanced training in geriatrics, on the authority of a protocol developed by the sponsoring physician(s) and the APP provider in accordance with AAPHC guidelines, and performs related work as required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records. 2. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed. 3. Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Establishes presumptive diagnosis. 4. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. 5. Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention. 6. Administers injections, immunizations and oral medications. Sutures wounds. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances. 7. Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. 8. Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education. 9. Assists physicians by recording patient progress notes, issues diagnostic orders, and transcribes orders. 10. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation. 11. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations. 12. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits. 13. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. 14. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. 15. Maintains patient confidentiality. 16. Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skills in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care. Skills in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining departmental quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communication clearly.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program Certification from the American College of Nurse Practitioners or from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Current license to practice as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the State of Georgia.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.
