Summary:

The Advanced Practice Nurse

  • Clinical Preceptor (APP) serves as a primary health care provider within a collaborative practice agreement with a physician.

This role is designed to provide comprehensive clinical care to patients 80% of the time and to support clinical education through precepting responsibilities 20% of the time. The NP utilizes advanced clinical knowledge and skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health education, and disease prevention while mentoring NP students and/or new providers in clinical competencies and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The authority and duties of the Advanced Practice Nurse shall include but not be limited to: Clinical (80%) Conduct comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic health conditions per established protocols. Prescribe medications and treatments as appropriate. Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and lab work. Provide education and counseling on health maintenance, wellness, and disease prevention. Refer patients to specialists or community resources as needed. Document all clinical encounters thoroughly in the electronic health record system. Perform gynecological procedures such as pelvic exams, Pap smears, STI testing, and contraceptive counseling. Precepting & Mentorship (20%) Serve as a preceptor for nurse practitioner students, new graduate providers, or clinical interns. Provide clinical instruction, feedback, and evaluations aligned with academic or organizational standards. Demonstrate professional behaviors and model best practices in clinical decision-making. Communicate regularly with academic partners or supervisors regarding student progress. Ensure a safe, educational, and inclusive learning environment. Nurse Practitioner may travel between all VHcS locations to perform services if needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Evaluation:

The evaluation of work performance, including specific duties, responsibilities, demeanor, and work ethics, will be ongoing and implemented by the Chief Medical Officer per center policies.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required. Current Nurse Practitioner certification in appropriate specialty area (e.g., FNP, WHNP). Active RN and APRN licensure in the State of Georgia. Minimum of two years clinical experience in primary care, women’s health, or family practice. Experience as a preceptor or clinical educator preferred. Proficiency in EHR systems and clinical documentation. Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and management of acute and chronic patient/family problems.

Status:

FLSA exempt position; OSHA risk high-risk position; ADA negotiable position.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; lift up to 50 lbs; assist patients as needed. Full range of motion, vision, hearing, and dexterity to perform clinical procedures and documentation. Comfortable working in a high-paced, emotionally demanding, and patient-focused environment.

Environmental Working Conditions:

Clinical setting with exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards. Potentially distasteful duties such as wound care or specimen collection. Occasional travel to off-site locations or other VHCs facilities.
