Job Description:

This position is fully responsible for the physical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and/or referral, teaching and follow-up of clients. The practice includes adult and adolescent medicine, and gynecology. Direct Patient Care
Demonstrate clinical knowledge and competency in diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients. Demonstrate expertise in technical skills and exhibits sound clinical judgment. Maintain and manage patients utilizing lab, x-ray and other diagnostic testing in an appropriate, cost effective manner. Perform phlebotomy, and other lab collection to complete patient lab orders. Independently prescribe and / or administer appropriate medication, corrective measures, and medical therapeutics. Utilize internal/external consultations wisely and appropriately. Coordinate with outside providers to assure for continuity of care. Collaborate with physicians regarding complex medical problems and initiated treatment as appropriate. Initiate emergency treatment of acute medical problems and consult with a collaborating physician or refer to urgent care or emergency room as appropriate. Provide patient education to assure recovery and prevention of illness. Conduct patient follow up may include after hours or weekend phone calls. Maintain clinical documentations on all patient encounters completely and in a timely manner including documentation of phone calls, prescriptions and results reporting. Preserve and protect patients’ rights of confidentiality. With patient permission, communicate with family and/or other University departments such as athletics, professors, and academic support, Dean of Students and other applicable individuals/departments to assure for safe recovery and best possible timely recovery and return to academic endeavors. Prioritize tasks and meets clinical objectives. Organize and handle scheduled caseload in a timely manner. Demonstrate willingness to assist colleagues/staff in difficult/overloaded situations in the interest of providing quality service to the patients and achieving harmony and good work flow in the practice. Administrative Support
Support administrative work of the office of Health Service which includes contributing to efficient office functions, patient flow, divisional and external communication to assure for quality health care. Contribute to the optimal function of Health Service with a willingness to consider group needs above self needs, works cooperatively with all staff while maintaining enthusiasm and positive relationships with others to accomplish the job goals and objectives. Staff Oversight
Participate in ongoing direction and oversight of clinical support staff in a manner consistent with their training and ability by provide teaching, guidance, and meaningful feedback to enhance professional growth. These positions include the Medical Assistant and Registered Nurse. Oversee care provided by the registered nurse and is available as a referral source to manage illnesses requiring more intensive clinical evaluation and treatment. Additional Functions
Serve on committees such as Alcohol task force, Sexual Assault task force, Eating Disorder Committee. Contribute to campus wide initiatives such as smoking cessation, Peer training, immunization and communicable disease control. Provide quest lectures as need in academic classes or for campus clubs and organizations. Maintain current medical knowledge through attendance at appropriate medical education programs. Participate in intra-office quality assurance with chart review and case study presentation. Attend provider meetings. Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy. Volunteer to assist at major University events such as commencement, convocation, and orientation. This a 10-month yearly position

Requirements:

Registered Nurse with Master’s Degree in Nursing. Minimum of two year’s nursing experience. Certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges. CPR Certified. State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges. Available to provide after-hours patient follow up on an as needed as basis. Ability to utilize electronic medical records system. Preferred Qualifications
Three to five years as a nurse practitioner with experience in college health. A wide range of clinical experience is important for competency in this role. Areas of experience preferably should include general internal medicine, gynecology, mental health issues, orthopedics and urgent care/emergency medicine. At the University’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
