The physical demands for the job will include intermittent walking, standing, sitting and bending. The Certified Nurse Aide shall be under the direction of the Supervisor of Assisted Living Services or the nurse on duty. The duties of Certified Nurse Aides include executing the approved care plan of each Resident through assisting in the delivery of the personal care services of the program. The main function is to maintain quality and consistency of nursing care. Prior to being assigned regular duties, each Certified Nurse Aide shall successfully complete the Resident’s orientation training program. All Certified Nurse Aides are required to participate in the community’s regularly scheduled in-service training programs. Upon request of the Supervisor of Assisted Living Services, Certified Nurse Aides shall participate in specialized staff training programs. Certified Nurse Aides who are responsible for the Residents’ well being must not have a physical or emotional problem that would interfere with normal daily functioning and the provision of appropriate care. Delegation of Authority As Certified Nurse Aide, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. Major Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions Perform all duties and responsibilities with a positive attitude. Acts as a representative of the residence to the community. Assist licensed personnel by providing basic nursing care to an assigned group of residents; follow resident care plans for delivery of resident care and service. Practice positive resident relations; respond to resident and family inquiries, concerns or problems. Exchange resident information with licensed nurses on an ongoing basis. Maintain and protect the confidentiality of resident information. Escort residents to appointments, when needed. Observing instructions of nursing staff and performing in line with established routine. Providing maximum resident care services to assure well being of resident to greatest degree. Carries out all requests made of him/her by the supervisor or to the best of his/her ability. Attends all nursing staff meetings and in-services. Is punctual and abides by the dress code of the facility. Assists the Residents with the Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), including toileting, dressing, bathing, eating and walking’ as provided in the service plan. Maintaining an awareness of each Resident’s general state of health and reporting any noticed changes at once to a nurse. Assisting Residents with clothing and laundry needs. Assisting Residents with keeping their apartments neat, clean and orderly. Answering emergency calls and attending to the Resident’s needs promptly. Assisting with and participating in Resident activities. Understanding of good housekeeping/sanitation practices. Understanding of Infection Control. Follows the chain of command of the facility. Maintains a constant level of professionalism with residents, staff and family members. Participates in unit duties not performed by housekeeping. Assist resident with self administered medication management in accordance with state regulations. Assists residents to activities, hairdresser and special functions. May accompany residents to outside functions or appointments. Charts appropriately on the residents in EMR. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Maintains 10 hours of dementia training annually, including 2 hours of pain. Maintains annual physical per ALSA regulations. Committee Functions Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility, (i.e., Performance Improvement, Safety, etc.,) as required, and as appointed by the Administrator. Personnel Functions Maintain a productive working relationship with other departments. Assure that appropriate identification documents are presented prior to employment and that such records are maintained in your personnel record. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility. Resident Rights Maintain the confidentially of all resident care information. Provide residents with information concerning resident rights funds, living wills, etc., Explain as necessary. Working Conditions Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and on other shifts when necessary. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day. May be exposed to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses through contact with blood or body fluids. Communications with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors. Educational Requirements Must have certified nurse aide, CNA or have equivalent training or experience Experience No experience necessary Specific Requirements Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal with tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and of good moral character. Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel. Must possess ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions and must possess respect for confidentiality. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc. that are necessary for providing sound accounting techniques. Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents, staff, and visitors based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing accounting practices. Must be knowledgeable of micro-computers, verify financial documents and reports. Must be able to prepare financial and other records in a systematic, neat and legible manner. Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices) Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility. Must be able to lift and move office equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
