Job Summary TheNursing Assistant Trainee is enrolled in a learning experiencedesigned to develop the confidence and competence to serve as acaregiver that provides personal care to clients. Under thesupervision of a licensed nurse, the trainee, in partnership with apreceptor, provides holistic client-centered care that promotesindependence and client rights in a safe, caring, and efficientmanner. The trainee is required to work within the role of anon-certified nursing assistant. The trainee is enrolled in aformal nursing assistant program and is required to fulfill alltraining requirements in the designated timeframe. The Trainee isnot allowed to perform any service(s) unless they have been trainedand found to be proficient by the instructor. The program isdelivered in hybrid format which includes an online curriculum andhands on skills development. Trainees learn the skills andprocesses needed to provide care and assistance to clients. Atcompletion of the training program, participants will be preparedto take state knowledge and skills exams to obtain the CertifiedNursing Aide (CNA) or other state certification designation. Whilein the Nursing Assistant Training Program, the trainee serves as amember of the nursing team and will be held accountable to know andfollow location-specific standards for infection prevention andcontrol, personal protective equipment use, safety, and privacy.
The trainee demonstrates the ability to follow written and verbalinstructions. This role requires an ability to do detailed workcorrectly, handle stress, demonstrate critical thinking, andprioritize responsibilities. The trainee works with clients andtheir families to ensure their physical, cognitive, spiritual,emotional, and social needs are met. The trainee deliversage-appropriate care to meet the physical, psychological, andrestorative needs of the client as defined in the care plan. Thetrainee assists the care team and documents client care whenappropriate. The trainee communicates changes in client conditionand care-related concerns to a licensed nurse. The trainee assistswith basic health care needs and activities of daily living such asbathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, undressing, obtaining vitalsigns, providing psychosocial support, and delivering otherpersonal care as assigned. The trainee assists the client intransferring, repositioning, range of motion exercises, and walkingusing appropriate transfer techniques and equipment. The traineeassists clients with meals and snacks and provides water andnutritional supplements as appropriate. The trainee assists withhousekeeping, laundry services, and other duties as assigned withinnon-certified nursing assistant role. Qualifications High schoolgraduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but notrequired. Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistantexperience in long-term care preferred. When applicable, forapplicable states, certified and registered with the UnlicensedAssistive Person (UAP) Registry. Dependent on facility and requiredresponsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category IIDriver requiring a motor. Vehicle report and proof of validdriver’s license. Must be medically qualified to perform theessential driving functions of this position as per our SanfordDriving Policy per the leaders request.
