Harmar Place CommunityUnder supervision of theRegistered Nurse (RN) or the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN),provides resident care in accordance with the Ohio Nurse PracticeAct. The Medication Aide-Certified (MA-C)/STNA is responsible forcaring for residents both physically and emotionally to enhancequality of life, including ADL and rehabilitationactivities.

Essential Functions Statement(s) Participates in and receives nursing report upon reporting forduty Documents, at time of service, all medications and treatmentsadministered. Documents in EMR accurately and timely Performs activities related to medications and treatments inaccordance with community policies and procedures. Maintains control of drugs in medicine cart (excluding lockedscheduled drugs); monitors for discrepancies and reports promptlyto nurse. Assists residents at mealtimes Assists with resident care including bathing, grooming, hygieneand placement of adaptive equipment Explains procedures to residents before administering, drapesresidents for examination and treatment. Keeps residents dry (changes clothing, linen, etc., when wet orsoiled) Assists residents with bowel and bladder functions Empties urinary drainage bags and records amount in record;Reports any irregularities to nurse Assists with lifting, positioning and transporting residentsinto and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.,keeping with specific resident safety needs; Assists residents inambulation, with or without self-help devices, as instructed Performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures, asinstructed Ensures call lights are within reach of residents and answerscall lights promptly Ensures residents’ personal care needs are being met inaccordance with residents’ wishes Reports all changes in residents’ condition to supervisor assoon as practical Changes bed linens and keeps linens tight to avoid wrinklesfrom forming under residents; Handles linens according to infectioncontrol guidelines Maintains cleanliness of resident units, central bathing area,treatment and supply rooms, workrooms, linen closets Assists residents in preparation for and transporting toappointments, activities and social programs Uses creative problem solving to meet the needs of theresident, within scope of responsibility Provides post-mortem care as instructed Performs required special nursing care duties, includingidentifying and reporting abnormal skin conditions Ensures residents are positioned and prepared appropriately formeals; serves food and assists with feeding as necessary; ensureseach resident is properly hydrated; assists in the delivery anddocumentation of all snacks and supplements Accurately records all entries on flow sheets, I and O’s, andother documents at point of care as required Participates in care conference as indicated and followsindividual resident care plans Performs all admission, discharge and transfer duties asrequired Maintains confidentiality of necessary information Utilizes supplies and equipment properly and without waste Reports observations concerning structural, equipment andfurniture defects and malfunctioning to appropriate personnel Handles unusual occurrences calmly and logically to maintaincontinuity of duties Maintains appropriate, effective communication with residents,and with residents’ family or other significant relationships, andensures departmental staff does the same Follows all appropriate safety and security guidelines, careprocedures and protocol for residents in the Dementia CareUnit Participates in relevant educational and training activities asappropriate Participates in special activities as necessary (e.g., safetycommittee; mentoring/orientation/new hires; etc.) Performs all other duties as assigned or directedThe MA-C willnot perform the following: Give medications that require dosage conversions orcalculations Give medications via nasogastric, gastrostomy, or Jejunostomyroutes Regulate IV fluids, program IV pumps, or insulin pumps. Medications by injection; including Insulin Scheduled II controlled substances Give the first dose of a newly ordered medication Call the physician regarding client status or need formedication Accept verbal or telephone orders from the physician or otherhealthcare professional allowed by state law to prescribemedications Administer oxygen PRN narcotics Inhalants requiring calculations delivered by inhalers,nebulizers, or aerosolsCompetency Statement(s) Accountability

High School Graduate or General Education Degree(GED):

Computer Skills:

Must be able to proficiently use a computer,the Internet and basic office equipment

Certifications & Licenses:

Successful completion of astate-approved Nursing Assistant program and Ohio Board of Nursingapproved MA-C training. Must obtain and maintain mandatory, stateand federal requirements and certifications for practice oroccupation

Other Requirements:
