Videos Duties Nursing Assistant – Major duties for the position include (but are not limited to): Appropriely utilize glucose monitoring machine to collect and document approprie glucose readings for assigned veteran Maintain positive therapeutic relionships by displaying respect for human dignity with pient, families and/or significant others utilizing learned communicion skills. Utilize observion skills for da collection, reporting and recording pient/ resident observions Perform aspects of nursing care to meet pient’s needs for the following under close supervision and with direction/guidance from a preceptor.: Personal Hygiene Physical comfort Activity, Exercise, Rest Nutrition Eliminion Prevention of Skin Breakdown Rehabilitive Aspects of Care Engage in-group activities such as off-stion trips, reality oriention, current events and other therapeutic groups. Performs EKG testing. Perform phlebotomy for tests as ordered by a physician. Labels specimens in accordance with facility policy and standard opering procedures. Duties may also include transport activities (transfer of pients to and from procedures/units) and delivering lab specimens to laborory. Utilize principles of proper body mechanics while caring for pients. Reports pient observions to the RN and or other members of the trement team. Initie saline lock. Routinely checks for pency/inflammion/infiltrion. Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures to care for the veteran for such procedures but not limited to: enemas, cheterizion, colostomy care, skin care- simple dressing, applicion of braces and prosthetic devices. Performs oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal and tracheal suctioning, performs routine tracheotomy care, instructs pient in use of incentive spirometer. Perform and documents finger sticks as ordered and necessary. Demonstres knowledge of side effects of selected medicion such as psychotropic drugs in geriric populion. Instruct and assist pients with dressing and undressing in preparion for an examinion. Assists with the discharge process as needed to maintain pient flow. Maintain and set up pient care reled equipment Organize and obtain routine supplies and equipment; including Opering Room equipment and supplies. Assist with orienting pient/family to unit routines and policies. Work as a cooperive, courteous member of the interdisciplinary team. Safeguarding the pient’s right to privacy by judiciously protecting informion of a confidential nure. Uses proper safety practices. Utilize principles of proper body mechanics and follows procedures for use of pient care equipment to prevent injury to self or others in all settings such as utilizion of lifting equipment.

This includes serving as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordinion of their oriention and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting.
