Job Description
The Unit Assistant functions in a complimentary or assistive role to allmembers of the healthcare team under the direct supervision of theRegistered Professional Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse. The UnitAssistant is responsible for maintaining smooth operations on the unit,assisting with preserving compliance with outside regulators andassisting physicians to obtain all necessary information in order totreat patients effectively. The Unit Assistant also provides directpatient care and carries out individual duties on select patients inaccordance with policies and procedures of Berkshire Medical Center.

Experience:
- Patient careexperience preferred. Minimum of one-year secretarial experience orclinical experience in a healthcare facility preferred.

Education andTraining:
- High school diploma or equivalent with completion of aNursing Assistant course and/or current status as a student in aRegistered Nurse or LPN preparation program. Certified Nursing Assistantpreferred.

License, Certification & Registration:
- CPRcertification is required.
- MA Certified Nurse Aide preferred.

OtherRequirements:
- Must prove consistency of working in both unitcoordinator/nursing assistant roles throughout the calendar year tomaintain eligibility for this position.
- Strong computer skillsrequired. Familiarity with Meditech preferred.
- Medical terminology ispreferred or willingness to pursue as necessary.
- Ability toconsistently interact in a professional manner with patients, families,physicians, other members of the healthcare team, community offices andagencies. Adheres to BMC Service Standards in performance of workrole.
- Must possess and demonstrate excellent organizational skillsnecessary to complete complicated and multiple tasks accurately andconcurrently.
- Must have ability to accept and facilitate changeswithin systems, work methods, policies, procedures, etc
- Must possessinterpersonal skills necessary to maintain congenial and calm composurein stressful environment.
- Must have ability to maintainconfidentiality in accordance with hospital policy and variousregulations.
- Must possess ability to communicate clearly with patientsand staff, both in writing and speech, with or without use ofprosthesis.
- Bilingual skills consistent with patient population arepreferred.
- Must possess the ability to promote patient safety withdetail to accuracy.
- Assures compliance with unit-specific scope ofpractice in accordance with job description.
- Demonstrateddependability in maintaining a work schedule.
- Demonstrated assertiveskills when dealing with varying levels of personnel.
